Be back. Had the Peppino’s pizza and love it!
What stood out was the friendly, down-to-earth service. Even when there were a fair number of people, staff managed things smoothly: ordering, getting food out — everything felt straightforward, without fuss.
For what you pay and what you get, Peppino’s feels like good value. It’s the kind of spot where you don’t expect fine dining — you expect honest food, a relaxed atmosphere, and enough to leave you content.
It’s not fancy — and I wouldn’t pick it for a special night out or fancy date — but for a low-key meal, some comfort food, or a no-pressure night with friends, Peppino’s works. If I’m in Athens and want something simple and reliable, I’d go back.
The staff was incredible, friendly and welcoming and the restaurant was the most cleaned including the bathroom.
The cheese was good though, and I the sauce was “meh” about it, so I’m guessing they weren’t super impressed either.
I would try the pizza.
Initially I was disappointed because I wanted a couple of pizza slices without tomato sauce. I wanted a white sauce. Or maybe a pesto base. But they don’t have anything other than tomato base when buy slices. You have to order a whole pizza to get a non tomato base.. Okay.. So plan B, since I don’t want a whole pizza.
I converted to ordering manicotti. That was actually the worst manicotti I have ever had in my entire life! The inside was dry and crumbly. The manicotti was baked so much that it was burned and stuck to the little tin pan that it was served it in. I couldn’t cut through the noodle with a knife!
I feel manicotti traumatized. Seriously, I was recently at another Italian restaurant and couldn’t bring myself to order the manicotti! I know, that’s a personal problem, so back to my review.
The other issue was that their salad bar isn’t really a salad bar. It’s lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, beets, and onions. They give you a small styrofoam bowl to make your salad in. I basically ended up with a small bowl of iceberg lettuce with beets on it.
My husband’s Stromboli wasn’t even really a stromboli. It was like a pizza dough bowl full of stuff. He said the sausage that was supposed to be in there tasted more like crumbled ground beef. So, my husband didn’t really enjoy his meal either. It wasn’t what he has encountered as a stromboli anywhere else.
My husband and I drove completely across town to try out this restaurant. We are trying to find the perfect pizza place around town, but this is not it for us!
Depending on what you like, you might like this place. I’d personally recommend sticking with the pizza in the tea! It’s a really well rated place otherwise, and I don’t often leave negative reviews. However, since both myself and my husband had issues, we really feel like people might like to know the tea is great! And quite possibly the pizza is too. The other stuff.. not so much.
Maybe we just hit them on a really bad day. But, whatever the case, we will not be back.
It is “Order at the counter”, so not much service given. But the staff were pleasant and welcoming. I don’t like giving a tip before Im served or taste the food.
I’m a big guy, 6’3 & dad bod, so the booths were tight for me. But free refills, YaY!!
It seems like a nice local stop for regulars. Give it a try!
