Pepper Palace Philly is a South Indian restaurant serving Kerala cuisine. My first order from them was in mid June, when they were almost new. I had ordered half tray of Thalassery Chicken Dum Biryani and of Malabar Chicken Dum Biryani for pickup. The lady who took my order was rude and rushed me on the phone, not giving proper response on what their special for the day was, but still I made order hearing good reviews about them. The biryani was flavorful, the meat was juicy, and the portions were generous with plenty of chicken and rice.

When I tried them again last week, the experience was very different. This time I had ordered the Malabar Chicken Dum Biryani and Malabar Mutton Dum Biryani, but both were disappointing. The biryani tasted drier, the portions were smaller, and there was noticeably less meat. It feels like the quality has dropped, and I have heard the similar stories from friends and colleagues who bought from them. The food can be good, but its inconsistent, which makes it hard to rely on them especially on orders for gatherings. I would check recent experiences from people before buying from them again.

First and last time.
I placed a pickup order over the phone, and no one could understand me, especially the lady who answered (and yes, I was speaking plain, basic English). I ordered MILD chicken tikka masala and two garlic naan.

What I got? No rice, food that was at least a spice level 4, and one plain naan cut into four tiny pieces, counted as two. I actually laughed when I opened the package because it was a total joke.

Felt like I was scammed. Save your money and order from a real restaurant that knows what they’re doing.

Baby’s Indian Kitchen is a hidden gem for Southern Indian cuisine. This fantastic takeout spot also offers Indo-Chinese dishes, and they do it perfectly. The food here beats every South Indian restaurant in Philly and brings the authentic flavors of Kerala to you.

Thanks to @shautireviews on Instagram for introducing me to this amazing place!

If you’re looking for a quick bite, they have hot items like rolls, cutlets, and Indian-style flaky patties. You can also order entrées and enjoy authentic filter coffee or masala chai while you wait.

Many people were picking up catering trays, and I now know why after tasting their food. Here’s what we tried:

• Dragon Chicken: Flash fried chicken with onions and peppers in a spicy and sweet garlic sauce.
• Chicken Schezwan Fried Rice: Spicy fried rice with a savory sauce.
• Beef Roll: Shredded beef with Indian sauce and veggies in a roll.
• Mutton Roast: Perfectly rich mutton curry, just like homemade!
• Garlic Naan: Thick, fluffy, and loaded with garlic.
• Kerala Chicken Biryani: Savory chicken curry layered with rice, my second favorite dish.
• Filter Coffee: Sweet but not too sweet, just like we love.
• Fruit Custard: A sweet ending with fruits in custard.

I can’t wait to go back and try more dishes.

The biryani had a unique and enjoyable flavor with impressive quality, definitely worth trying. However, the taste wasn’t as good once it got cold. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

Honestly the BEST lamb biriyani I have ever ordered. The lamb is so tender and flavorful it practically melts in your mouth. The rice has good aromatics and tastes amazing! Best part? There is practically a piece of lamb in every single bite. The bottom of the tray is layered with lamb curry and topped with the rice! They do not go cheap on the meat you get like most places do. The price? Man best price I have ever gotten for a half tray. It also comes with a huge thing of fresh raita (side dish of yogurt with cucumber, tomato, cilantro, etc) and fresh lemon pickle. I believe they give the most bang for your buck cause there is a lot in this half tray. The pictures are after I already ate a lot of it and there is still so much more! Thank you for giving me a taste of something that my mom would make! I will definitely be ordering from here again and again!

(UPDATE: Been here multiple times now, and I can now confirm that in my opinion, this is in the top 3 best Indian restaurants in Philly- NJ
area. The beef curry is out of this world.)
This was a great surprise. An authentic Indian restaurant within walking distance of my house. Tried their chicken biryani platter and loved it. Definitely visiting again. All the best to the crew.

Ordered spicy chicken curry, extra spicy chicken tikka masala and some garlic naan for $40! This was a meal fit for around 5 people because this was a huge amount of food! The naan was fluffy and soft with a slight char. The spicy chicken curry had some juicy bone-in chicken accompanied with ginger and tomatoes. The tikka masala was super flavorful and creamy pairing well with their rice. Pleasantly surprised that the rice had seasonings as compared to other restaurants I’ve been to that only served a small portion of basmati rice but Baby’s gave me a huge container with perfectly cooked rice. Would come here again to try everything else they have to offer!

I bought a chicken biryani there. Wen I opened it’s only masala no rice. Tell me how can I eat a masala without rice. And they charge me 16 dollar.

This restaurant does not have a place to sit and eat. It is only take out. I forgot to check this information before going there
3 Star is for the food. Did not have the authentic Kerala taste. Guess they are not using coconut oil for cooking. Was expecting more after seeing the ratings.
