I recently tried Peno Mediterranean Grill in Charlotte, NC, and it might just become my new go-to spot for fast fresh Mediterranean food. The house salad with gyro meat was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the shawarma was equally delicious. The staff were friendly and took the time to answer all of our questions, making the visit feel welcoming and attentive.
This place gets a lot of praise for its quick service, quality ingredients, and warm atmosphere, and now I understand why. Everything was thoughtfully prepared, hot, fresh, and genuinely satisfying from start to finish.
Highly recommend this spot for a tasty Mediterranean fast-casual meal in a clean, inviting setting. I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I’m craving a quick Mediterranean treat!

This was the least appetizing meal I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the chicken gyro bowl and when I say it was covered in a runny tzatziki sauce, I mean it was smothered. Every single piece of lettuce, tomato, and chicken is drenched in it. This was my first and last time eating here.

A Once-Great Restaurant That Has Lost Its Way
When this restaurant first opened, my family and I were frequent visitors — dining here two to three times a week. The food was fantastic, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the owner was personable and always present, ensuring everything ran smoothly. For several years, the food remained consistently excellent, and we were proud to support this establishment.
Unfortunately, over the past year, the quality has declined drastically. During each visit — and we’ve made several attempts hoping things would improve — the food has become increasingly disappointing. What was once a reliable favorite has become nearly inedible. Our typical bill averages between $80 and $120, and it’s disheartening to see that the experience no longer justifies the cost.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with the owner many times, and I truly can’t imagine this is the standard he envisions for his restaurant. I sincerely hope he becomes aware of the current state of the food and takes steps to restore the quality that once made this place such a gem in the community.
After giving it one last try today at my daughters’ request, we once again left disappointed. Sadly, it seems this will be our final visit — unless things turn around. I genuinely hope to see this establishment return to the excellence it was once known for.

It was our first time here. This place is an eat in carry out setup, order at the counter. I had a greek gyro, which comes with tomatoes, red onions, feta cheese, and t-sauce with fries. The gyro was really good. I will most definitely come back and order it again. The fries were ok they were like checkers / popeye’s kind of fries. The customer service was great. The men’s bathroom was clean and stocked.

Ordered a gyro platter and it was quite tasty overall. Gyro was hot and nicely cooked. Rice and hummus were good. Staff were friendly. Only minor issue was it was abit warm inside. Would recommend if you are wanting a “fast food” type Mediterranean restaurant.

Peño is one of my favorite spots for Mediterranean food in town! The place has a relaxed, welcoming vibe, the food is always flavorful, and the prices are very reasonable. If you’re craving a delicious gyro shawarma or just want to try something fresh and tasty, I definitely recommend it!
