Pennyroyal Station was an absolute gem. The atmosphere was intimate, cozy, and very welcoming. My family loved the industrial style and the overall cool vibe of the place.
The food was delicious. I had the gumbo paired with the Green Goodness drink and it was a perfect combo. The portion sizes were just right and very satisfying.
The service was great from start to finish, and one thing that really stood out was how clean the bathrooms were. That attention to detail says a lot about the place.
Overall, great food, great service, and a unique, stylish atmosphere. Highly recommend Pennyroyal Station and we will definitely be back.

Pennyroyal has been one of my go-to restaurants in the DMV since 2020. I can always find something I like or a familiar favorite on the menu. This was my first time trying the gumbo. It was solid and very filling, but I’d probably stick to one of the burgers or sandwiches, which are consistently good. My friend is vegan and had high praise for the vegan gnocchi. I also love the restaurant aesthetic. It’s perfect for friends or a date night/brunch.

Ordered a “royal burger” for takeout, and it was the best burger I had so far in the DC area. I had decent burgers from the capital burger and bistro du jour, but the burger from this restaurant is way better tasting to me than other places I visited so far. You can order burgers with 1-3 beef patties here. I ordered a single patty (6oz), which was more than enough food and was barely able to finish it. Yum!

Found what seems like a hole in the wall from the outside, but it did not disappoint! Very polite staffs and relaxed atmosphere. The food was amazing! We’ve tried Chicken pancakes, buttermilk chicken sandwich, fried chicken biscuits, and the pancake stack. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was amazing! I would definitely be back whenever we may be in Cheverly again! Highly recommend!

Pennyroyal is consistently serving up very good food in an arty, non-chain, original environment. I stick with the Pennyroyal Salad because it is so big and hardy (Although it does seem a lot smaller than it was the last time I was in.) But it is still a meal unto itself (pictured). I highly recommend adding the chicken thigh to the salad— a great combination for the pallet!
Macaroni with brisket is off the charts!
Actually, everything on the menus is tasty and original. The interior decor is appealing, with original paintings by one of the owners.

We came here for a birthday brunch and we had fantastic time. All staff members were pleasant and courteous and atmosphere is chill, most importantly the food was great. I ordered the Pennyroyal Salad with fried fish and I love it, it was fresh and crispy. Others in my party ordered 9 different dishes and each of them raved about it. Highly recommend and will def go there again.

Went here for Sunday brunch and had a great time! Even though it was busy, we got seated pretty quickly, which was nice. There’s a good amount of street parking nearby, so getting there was easy.
The staff were super friendly, and the food and drinks were on point. The whole place has a chill, lowkey vibe that I really liked.
The decor stood out–super fun and eclectic, which made the atmosphere even better. They also have outdoor seating, so I’ll have to check that out next time.

This restaurant was phenomenal! We came for Brunch and ordered the PennyRoyal burger, a side of grits and the confit wings. We requested our burgers medium, but they came out medium well. Despite that, we had absolutely no complaints flavor wise. Our waitress was friendly and proactive, and checked on us as needed. We also ordered and enjoyed two cocktails, the espresso martini and the gin martini. Both came out quickly and were well crafted. The women’s bathroom was also really clean. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. We will definitely be back to try their lunch and happy hour menus.

I need to start by saying that I didn’t come here starving or anything that would impact my taste buds over the food here. Lol
Three things that were next level EPIC here:
1. FOOD. Listen. Have their pupusa ranchera once in life. Thank me later. Its like a savory cake of everything good about the world. Base layer of refried beans. Two cheese pupusas stacked over the beans. One fried egg over all of that topped with this Pico de gallo cilantro and red sauce drizzle I died for TWICE and it was amazing both times. That’s not it. Their shrimp and grits are spicy but sinfully DELICIOUS. Last thing, I have a friend that determines the amazingness of a venues food their pancakes. Just try their fired chicken pancake. I’m willing to bet a lot they put something addictive in that pancake cause WOW. it’s so fluffy. So fresh. They might add a pinch of salt to the batter cause it slaps with some kind of salted caramel vibe with the syrup. Smh in pure DELIGHT.
2. SERVICE. we’ve had Stephanie twice and she was just the sweetest. Thank you Stephanie!
3. ATMOSPHERE. Yall. I told you I didn’t come to this place starving so that didn’t heighten my taste for this food Ina way that would have biased my enjoyment. BUT, I promise there is something subtle but fantastically well done with what they did on the interior design front. Beauty is relative. I know but this had all the esthetic pleasure zones of my brain lighting up with joy. Not sure if esthetic pleasure sones are a thing… doesnt matter lol. The whole place is a VIBE. it’s the attention to detail with the way they selected and painted each chair uniquely. The treatment of the walls vary from this industrial rough esthetic to this polished sultry paint to carefully pared wall paper. Somehow everything still feels light and effortless with the plants on shelves in front of the windows and the pots of boiling water spreading the essence of whatever they chose that day (eg cloves cleaning the air of all bad spirits, etc). I was most amused by their creative solution to the endless cord linked to the lamp in the bathroom. Someone brilliant and creative used that cord to map a maze on the wall in a way that still made that cord beautiful and functional. Next level stuff.
