This used to be a wonderful place to go and eat. I loved it when it was run properly. I went there today and waited 15 minutes for a waitress while there were two people in the entire place. All of the workers were in the kitchen joking around and laughing. I I got up and left with out saying a word. The owners son came out and started yelling at me and asking what he did wrong. I explained to him that I was not happy with the service. His response was that I should never come back and that I was fat and overweight. So, avoid this place at all cost.

Awesome eggs Benedict, hollandaise sauce was so refreshing and light with a great lemon zest flavor, cinnamon raisin french toast was extra on the cinnamon, probably would try the regular French toast next time, great to sit outside in the morning and enjoy a September breeze

Came in for lunch this week with my mom to try a place in town I’ve been wanting to try for a while and Penn’s Table certainly didn’t disappoint. The menu features some local history about the restaurant and its owners and sandwiches such as the Church Street reference local areas. The food was amazing and with a wide selection of soups, sandwiches, and wraps I’m looking forward to future visits.

My first impression of Penn’s Table was that it was loud, crowded, and uncomfortable. I ordered Breakfast option #1 (two eggs, toast, home fries), priced at $4.99. I was with a friend at the time, and when the waitress came to ask for our orders, my friend hadn’t quite decided what to get yet. The waitress asked me if I was ready to order and I said yes. Then she smiled and walked away to another table. I was confused as to why she had walked away, but chalked it down to perhaps her mishearing me (somehow). My thoughts on the food were as follows: the eggs were shaped unnaturally, and despite my eggs being poached, one was undercooked and one was very overcooked; the home fries were in a diced potato fashion and were inconsistently cooked – either very undercooked or very overcooked, but always hard as a rock and almost unseasoned; the entire meal was brought to me cold. When we received the bill, it had a mysterious extra charge for $2, which I discovered was because I had asked for the eggs poached. However, I was under the guise that I could pick how I wanted my eggs cooked 1) just like any other restaurant and 2) as there was no style set, it only said “two eggs”. The cashier searched through the menu until she found what she was looking for – in the middle of the menu, on a completely different page from the one I had ordered from, was an “additional sides” section with a little line saying “poached eggs: $2”. Anyone who had managed to find this little random line of text would assume that it meant if you ordered another poached egg that didn’t come with your meal as it was, again, under the *additional sides* section and the average restaurant will let you pick how you would like your eggs cooked unless they have a specific type of egg set in your order – and even then, they will often let you change it. However, when I pointed this out and explained that I was not willing to pay an additional $2 charge for something not pointed out to me beforehand, as well as it being on a random page in small font in a random section of the menu that even then didn’t explain the charge, the cashier snapped at me, shouting “Fine! I’ll take it off your charge this time, but next time it is an additional $2 for getting it poached.” Then she glared at me and my friend, took the money for the meal, and stormed off. As a customer service worker myself at a restaurant, I was shocked at how rudely I had been treated as a customer. I had calmly stated my reasoning for refusing to pay an additional charge, and had a good reason as well, but even if I hadn’t and instead had screamed at her or acted rudely, I was the customer. As a service worker you never snap or act rudely toward a customer – even if they deserve it, which I didn’t. I know how hard it can be sometimes, but you grit your teeth and smile, or at least do your job calmly, and the fact that this woman had snapped at me so quickly over nothing was the rotten cherry on an extremely poorly-made sundae. Needless to say, I will never be returning to Penn’s Table, and I suggest that anyone who considers eating there does not waste their time or money doing so.
