Stopped by with my kids and we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the popular #22 combo, which came with a generous mix of fish, shrimp, oysters, scallops, and classic sides like coleslaw, mac, and potato salad. Everything was hot, crispy, and super flavorful.

The portions are big, the service was friendly, and even my little ones loved their fries and onion rings. Great family-owned spot if you’re craving a classic fish fry. Definitely worth adding to your seafood list!

Food was nice and hot. Tasty. Just wish you get more than 3 hush puppies with your dinner and wish the sides were bigger

Penguin Fish & Chips is a true local gem!

We came for the seafood and left OBSESSED. This spot has been around for decades and you can feel the old-school charm the moment you walk in. The interior is clean, cozy, and no-frills — exactly what you’d expect from a longtime neighborhood favorite. There’s a nostalgic diner vibe, with friendly staff and steady regulars grabbing their go-to orders.

We went big with the COMBO platter and it did not disappoint:
5 crispy fish fillets — each piece golden, flaky, and piping hot
1 giant jar oyster — tender, briny, and fried to perfection
6 jumbo shrimp — juicy, snappy, and delicious
2 golden scallops — buttery and lightly crisp on the outside

And the sides? A throwback dream — creamy coleslaw, classic potato salad, and nostalgic macaroni salad that tastes like summer picnics.

If you’re craving classic, no-nonsense seafood done right, Penguin is the spot. Come hungry and bring a friend — the portions are huge!

The red snapper was seasoned & fried just right . I love the crinkle fries & hush puppies that accompanied the fish. I appreciated the packaging the fish dinner came in, a small card board box with a lid to keep everything warm & crispy. Alot of fish markets use Styrofoam containers which sweat the fish & fries out causing them not to have that fresh crispy texture. They give you tarter sauce in the packets like ketchup come in which is OK but, if they were to switch to the tarter sauce that come in the small round plastic container that most fish markets provide & add a bread roll , it would be over the top. Overall very nice fish dinner. The price i selected was for 2 red snapper dinners $38.00.

I love this place. Friendly, helpful. Great size portion for the money. You pick the fish. And they fry it up for you right then and there. Get the lunch special. It was 2 meals for me.

Was nostalgic about having a fish and chips meal, must have missed the UK.

Was optimistic – the restaurant looked promising, with its fresh fried fish presentation and buzzy open kitchen.

Cashier didn’t seem enthusiastic, and workers less engaged.

Anyway, got it home and and high expectations, but the fish and shrimp were dry and stale. The batter tasted like it was made of corn meal – not an authentic nor tasty fish and chips experience.

Not sure why they have packaged tartar sauce when they have a fresh fish display, kind of defeats the purpose.

The red snapper fried fish was so good! They provided friendly service, the prices were fair for the portion, and everything was fresh. The only thing I wish they would add is a drink to their dinners; otherwise, I have no complaints.

A very casual but tasty to-go oriented fish and chips spot in a strip mall on Pico Blvd. There is parking right out front in a provided parking lot so getting in and out is very easy. Dining in is possible, but most choose to-go. When ordering you choose the fish you want, they fry it and serve it with fries. It really hits the spot if that’s what you’re in the mood for. Personally I like grilled fish more, but having a fried option is important too.

For my most recent order I chose the Orange Roughy Dinner and it was very good. Pricey at $22.79, but still very tasty. We also ordered the Jumbo Shrimp dinner for $16.79 which was closer to fairly priced. They really give a lot of seafood and fries so you won’t be hungry after the meal.

I knocked off a star due to price and a lack of other appetizer or side dish options, but I would return in the future and would recommend to anyone looking for fish & chips.

Food was good. Red snapper and Shrimp served with lits if fries. One order is enough for two and a cat too. Service was good. Ambiance is one star.
