Excellent fish and fries. Large size served 3 of us a light lunch and dinner snack. Good clam chowder. Friendly woman running the place by herself, including the cooking. Got takeout but the interior seems like a snapshot in time. Clean restroom. Would definitely come back to try more things from the menu.

Best fish and chips around and lots of different menu options including delicious bulgogi barbecue, giant fried prawns, different sides and appetizers, and great burgers! Amazing family-run restaurant, you will not be disappointed and the atmosphere is one-of-a-kind in historic downtown Auburn!

Excellent historical place to come have the best fish and more in Auburn. Fish is expertly battered and fried. Blooming onion is magnificent! The salads are really fresh and delicious. Best tartar sauce ever! Delicious salad dressing too. Been coming here for years. Never disappointed. Terrific customer service and I just love the atmosphere. Must stop in place when coming to Auburn. Very nice people!

Legitimately very good fish and fries in Auburn! We got a large fish and fries that came with 4 pieces of fish and a big basket of fries. Enough for our family of 2 adults and a little kid for lunch, though we also enjoyed some clam chowder. We’ll for sure be back again!

I was very impressed with their fried fish!

I ordered the crab cake sandwich but it appeared to be a pre frozen crab cake, and it was much too small for the bun, it still had a good taste and was not dried out.

My husband ordered the fish and chips. They are very light and crunchy, I didn’t find it to be overly greasy, and they were also good and juicy.

Very good cole slaw, and good tea.

This is a real hidden gem in Auburn – or on route to your favourite Lake Tahoe destinations from Northern California. You can’t go wrong with fish & chips here, although I’ve had better tartar sauce elsewhere. As a tourist, I’d go with cod, which costs a little more than catfish. The portion is generous – we’ve always had leftovers. Remember leftover French fries from some other restaurants, the staleness? Not those from Pelican’s Roost!

This is even more pronounced when you notice that the owners are first generation Korean immigrants. (In addition to fish and chips, they have a selection of American food like any typical American eatery.) The old lady in this family-owned joint is always warm and quick with service. (I’ve always come to the place after 1pm on a weekend so I can’t tell about busier hours.) Seating is spacious, with intriguing retro decors indoors and an interesting “fresh air enclosed” seating area where you can go people watching – or car watching mostly, while eating. The latter is not your usual outdoor seating so you have to experience it to appreciate.

I accidentally discovered this five years ago when I entered Auburn after 2pm. After eating at another Auburn gem for some years, I decided to bring my daughter, also a fish & chips lover, to this place last year. No regrets.

On the upside, the cod was actual pieces of fish. Service lady was friendly and efficient. Food was all freshly fried.

The chips are just normal French fries, though and there is nothing remarkable about this food.

For those of you who are British and intrigued this may somehow be more authentic British style fish and chips, it’s not.

Excellent combination plate, which consisted of scallops, shrimp, calamari, and cod along with fries. It served 3 of us with leftovers. The fish was excellent with a perfectly crispy crunch even after taking it home to eat. The Cole Slaw, which I ordered as a side, was also delicious. The restaurant was not busy for im person dining, but the ambiance was welcoming and was nicy decorated with antiques and a hometown feel. It was very clean, including the restroom. Service was excellent despite just picking up a takeout order. I highly recommend them for their food and service.

The fish has a good crunch to it, but lacks any flavor. We weren’t given any vinegar with our fish, and when I asked for a large like what the tartar sauce came in, she gave me this tiny cup. I asked for three more because we don’t really use the tartar, and was told no. My mom asked how much for one of the small bottles, $6. When we went to pay for it the lady asked if we would just add it on as a tip instead of ringing it up through a second transaction in order to avoid the .35 cent merchant transaction fee. I told my mom we could just go get one from the store instead. I’m glad we didn’t buy the bottle. Even the vinegar tastes watered down. Typical prices for fish and chips, but lacking in flavor and it’s clear to see why. This was our first experience here, and we won’t be coming back.
