Reviews
This restaurant was recommended to me by a family member, and I was hesitant at first since I don’t usually love fried chicken. But once I looked at the menu and saw rice cakes, I was instantly sold They are hard to find in this area unless you make them yourself or buy the dried grocery store bowls, so seeing a rice cake bowl with toppings had me ecstatic.
I ordered the rosé rice cakes since spice isn’t really for me, and when I opened it, it smelled AMAZING. I immediately took a bite while still standing at my counter I was honestly speechless. There was no spice at all, just a perfect balance of slightly sweet and savory flavors. The fish cakes were wonderful, the vegetables were heavenly, but the rice cakes were the absolute star of the show.
The texture was unreal. I am a huge texture eater, and these rice cakes had the most perfect bounce and bite, easily the best I have ever had. This bowl was a full texture masterpiece for me.
I know some people mention pricing, but the portion was very generous. At $16, it was more than worth it. I would gladly pay more for something this good.
I am so glad we have this restaurant in the area and cannot wait to try more dishes. Thank you for such a phenomenal experience. You have gained a customer for life.
If you’re a fellow hot-food masochist like me, this is the kind of dish that will have you both regretting your choice, and struggling with the urge to keep going even after your lips are on fire and your stomach is telling you you were full five or six bites ago.
I, personally, lost the fight with my id and kept going until it was all gone.
If you like spicy Korean food and aren’t afraid of some heat, order Pelicana’s Sweet and Spicy chicken thighs, extra crispy, level 3. If you’re a white American and show no signs of having a tempered palate, they might try to warn you off with a few comments or questions making sure you know what you’re getting into. Stick to your guns, it’s worth it.
The coating maintains its crispness, which is no small feat considering how liberally they coat the chicken chunks with their delectable sauce. And the sauce is the perfect combination of sweetness and heat that you can tell does not come from insultingly just adding capsaicin for effect. It’s actually flavorful.
Every time my son and I get this to bring home, we inevitably ask whose dumb idea it was to go with level 3 again, but then we finish each and every bite, fully cognizant of what it’s doing to us physically, mentally, and emotionally.
We’re also intentionally turning a blind eye to what tomorrow morning will bring. But, it’s worth it.
(There’s some hyperbole in this review, but honestly, not that much.)
The chicken was perfectly crispy and full of flavor, and the fried rice was super fresh. Everything was packaged well and still hot when I got back. Great food and best in class experience. Highly recommend!
I also thoroughly enjoyed checking out the adjacent market while waiting for our meal. We’ll definitely be back to both soon!
Let’s start with the most important information, the food was excellent. Food quality and portion size makes the price worth it, in my opinion. I paid $19+ after taxes for 10 wings, but the wings were very large and very crispy.
As for the atmosphere/service, it was fine at best, the minimal seating inside is not very comfortable (metal bar stools and small counter top), and the lunch time sun beating through the front windows made it hot. This wouldn’t have been a huge problem except I had to wait a good while for my food (15-20 minutes).
