Peking is, by far, the best Chinese restaurant in town. I’ve eaten there since I was a child, and their food is always delicious and consistent!

We had all the staples the kids loved and each was incredible! The orange chicken came in this very unique presentation, tasted amazing, especially with the cherries and it had a good crunch. The Bourbon chicken was also incredible, it had a lot of thinly sliced onions BUT they’re soaked in that sauce which makes them taste so good. The Mongolian beef was my favorite and it was packed with flavor! This is easily our favorite Chinese restaurant so far! Apparently they used to have a buffet on Sundays that I don’t think they do anymore which is a shame. If they bring that back, this would easily be one of the best restaurants in the area.

We ordered take out, and I tried to get something semi-healthy so I ordered the Spicy Vegetable lunch meal only to discover on the first bite that it was full of sugar and was so sweet to me, that I threw the whole meal into the garbage. There’s no ingredient list on the menu, so unless you’ve ordered an item before, there’s no way to know. Veggies were overcooked, broccoli was soggy and the rice was mushy. Maybe the food is better if you eat in the restaurant, but I’ll not be getting take out from here again.

The atmosphere is very nice. The decoration and walls make you feel like you are in China. You can get a lot of portions for a cheap price. My wife loved the shrimp. But l didnt like the rice+chicken fries. I liked chinese beer.

Peking China has been around for years and years. The overgrown landscaping outside is a testament to the tired 80/90’s feel inside. Sometimes these old nooks are a diamond in the rough, but Peking China feels really tired. Now onto the food…The food was average to below average, but the portions were generous. The egg drop soup was not what I would usually expect with huge egg pieces (more like wonton soup) and bits of chicken and shrimp loitering at the bottom of my bowl. That was the only outlier we noticed other than the hunk of paper? Cardboard? I’m not sure what…ended up in my Chicken w/Broccoli and one of our Chicken Lo Mein dishes appeared to have tempura crunchies thrown in…on purpose? Or just leftovers scattered from around the fryer? There was a buffet area, but it was closed (Saturday). I’m thinking it’s open during the week, but call ahead since Im not 100%. Our family won’t be seeking Peking China out on purpose again since I don’t really crave brown paper bags and other questionable items from an obviously chaotic kitchen.

My wife and I ate there today for lunch.
My wife had almond chicken and I had spicy Peking chicken.
My lunch was a mixture of warm and cool chicken. Sweet and not spicy served with rice in a puddle of liquid.
My wife’s was cold served the same way with rice in a puddle of liquid.
The egg drop soup was fine. The egg rolls were okay.
We both ordered tea which didn’t come until I asked for it.
Maybe we came on an off day. They have good reviews, we were looking forward to trying them out.

This is the best Chinese food in the entire country. While probably one of the more biased reviews available for a restaurant, I’m still going to lay it out there.

We have been coming to Peking in Athens, GA for over 30 years. From the original owners of Peter and Francis to the wonderful Christine and her late husband, the owners and operators of this restaurant have always been really great people. They are so friendly and the entire staff provides exceptional service. Speaking of service…you know a restaurant is great when you have a stable of waiters/waitresses that have been there for decades. DECADES.

Speaking of decades, I have celebrated the majority of my birthdays at this restaurant. From graduation dinners to other celebratory occasions, the answer is always clear for where we should go to eat: Peking. And a common theme from all of those dinners? We walk out of the restaurant and look to each other while saying, “that was the best meal I’ve ever had at Peking.”

While I know everyone has their own taste and opinion on dishes to get, I really don’t know what you’re doing if you’re not ordering some of their best dishes. These are their absolute best dishes and every time we order, we have at least a couple of these:

– Peking Chicken
– House Special Shrimp (when eating AT the restaurant)
– Mongolian Triple Delicacy
– Spicy Ginger Shrimp

I cannot get enough Chinese food. I’m that weirdo eating airport Chinese food at 9 in the morning. I am lucky to have traveled a fair amount, plus I’ve also lived six different states where I can promise you I have eaten enough Chinese food to feed a small army. While there are obviously other great restaurants out there (Pei Wei anyone?), Peking in Athens, GA is hands down at the top of my list for best Chinese food ever. They are consistently delicious, consistently outstanding with service, and super friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant!!!

We’ve eaten here plenty of times and usually love it, but this visit was terrible. We were seated and waited over 20 minutes without anyone coming to take our order or even offer drinks. When we politely asked a waiter walking by how much longer it would be and if we could get a drink, he yelled at us, saying he had other customers and couldn’t take care of us too. We told the hostess what happened, and he just nodded and didn’t seem to care at all. We ended up just leaving. Really disappointing after how much we’ve liked this place in the past.

I have been on this Earth over 40 years and have never experienced the “I found a roach on my food” until today. While I absolutely understand that things happen, there are three factors that make me think that this was not an unusual occurance. A combination of issues has pushed me to write this review.
The first issue was that the little German roach was fried and sauced -meaning he was deep in the veg (how long had he been there?) and no one noticed him at plating. The second issue was the complete lack of a reaction from the waiter when notified. Like he had seen this problem before and was more annoyed with having to remove the plate than with the fact that there was a ROACH in my lo mein. At this point, we were still going to finish our soup, but lo and behold, the soup bowls had dried food stuck in the bottoms of them when we pulled them apart. There was no manger to talk to, the waiter all but fled from us and the icky feeling I had just kept growing at the lack of cleanliness standards in the kitchen, so we just left without eating anything. I used to really enjoy Peking, but this was beyond gross and unacceptable.

I loved my experience. The atmosphere was amazing and charming and the service was absolutely impeccable! The food was so flavorful and well balanced. The plum wine was my desert, it was sweet and delicious like a ripe plum! I look forward to going back soon!

Food was good. Waiter didn’t want to wait on me and my daughter but we left a $10 tip anyway. I wish him well.
