Today, I placed a large size order for what I expected (based upon the area sizing portions) to be more than enough for five people. I had even conferred with the young man taking my order and he said “Yes”. My order consisted of a Beef and Broccoli, General Tso Chicken, large pork fried rice, large vegetable low mein, and white rice, and an order of spare ribs. This was “dinner” sized portions allegedly. This order total was $95 and change.

By the time I receieved my order and got to my work site. The portion sizing was consistent with a “Lunch” sized order. My Pork fried rice was chicken fried rice.

I had contacted to location to see if there was a mix up and the sales person stated “No”. Even if I would have ordered 2 more “large” entrees it would not be enough to still feed my staff. The area norm for many locations are the plastic large size dishes which with two entrees normally feeds 5 people.

This was absolutely abysmal, over priced, and I was treated to “Feel bad” for them.

This may be considered being the male version of a “Karen” post however raising prices and shortening portions and lying to your customers on size get you no where.

Lesson learned.

Large quantities of kid-friendly, mediocre, bland, Chinese American food.

As far as Chinese American restaurants go, this is a real disappointment. If you need to feed the kids in a hurry, this could fit the bill, though, but adults should look elsewhere.

Recipes are uninspired, and not very spicy. Dumplings were mostly dough, and little filling. Kung pow chicken had almost as many water chestnuts as chicken. I’ve never seen Kung pow chicken with water chestnuts. There were no bell peppers or celery. It wasn’t spicy at all.

You might consider this place if you’re in a hurry, need something fast, and don’t care about how the food tastes, but if you’re looking for good Chinese American food, keep searching.

The Peking Pavilion I had loved since its opening in 1985 was sold in March 2023. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined significantly. I hadn’t visited since 2021, but I recently stopped in to order the wonderful steamed dumplings I used to enjoy. Instead, I paid $2.00 each for small, flavorless dumplings, and even the dipping sauce was disappointingly bland. I can honestly find better dumplings in the frozen food aisle at my local grocery store.

According to an article I found online, Mrs. Ann Troung owned and ran Peking Pavilion until it was sold to her nephew. It may be time for Mrs. Troung to return and offer guidance to the new owner, because the restaurant is unlikely to survive if it continues to serve overpriced, uninspired food.

Support family-owned businesses… this is as Mom & Pop as it gets. Unfortunately, there is a certain reality to running a one-off brick and mortat in the post-pandemic world. The prices are a little high for classic Chinese-American (i.e. the word Peking is all over the menu so gauge your expectations) food, but I find this to be a less pretentious and more well-prepared sleeper over Peter Chang’s which is modern and consistently underperforms for what it is. The two restaurants aren’t really that comparable, but I grew up with homemade Chinese food, and this is the kind of food that is more common on a regular basisa long with a lot fo Chinese American mainstays – you can get the General Tso’s and Crab Rangoon, but there are other gems if you explore the menus a bit.

The House Special Chicken has a Korean fried chicken vibe… think soy-garlic flavor, that’s crispy and hot. I also love their Peking Eggplant, which is cooked fresh and hot, and is basicalkt Yu-shiang Eggplant on other menus. The guy in the back knows what he’s doing, and you can hear his vocal joy of cooking. No apparent online vehicles to order ahead… they’re old school, so you just have to go there or call in your order. Yes, it would be nice if they had delivery options.

UPDATE 01-29-25: A Once-Great Restaurant in Decline

I regret to inform you that I can no longer recommend this restaurant. The new ownership has significantly diminished the quality of both the food and customer service. What was once a gem of a Chinese restaurant has sadly lost its luster.

The General Tso’s Chicken, which I previously praised, is now inconsistent. On a recent visit, it tasted more like Orange Chicken. The duck, which used to be a highlight, lacked flavor and crispy skin. The accompanying duck sauce was overly vinegary, and to my surprise, no hot sauce was provided.

The customer service has also deteriorated. The front desk representative was rude and unhelpful, both over the phone and in person. This decline in quality has been echoed by friends and family who were also once loyal customers.

It’s disheartening to witness the downfall of a once-great establishment. I hope the new ownership takes heed of this feedback and makes the necessary changes to restore this restaurant to its former glory. Until then, I sadly cannot recommend this restaurant.

If you want the best General Tso Chicken in Northern Virginia you need to visit this restaurant. I’ve been a customer since high school when I used to come after school to eat General Tso Chicken with friends. Fast forward to present and I continue eating here as I haven’t found another location with as delicious General Tso Chicken as this place. Come place an order and enjoy the delicious experience that follows.

Good food but lousy communication. I was told the restaurant was open Christmas day (person on the phone wasn’t very friendly), tried to order online, told they weren’t available. Called the restaurant next day, was told it was my fault for not calling. Nice.

It’s December 2025 and I still love this place. I usually order vegetable lo mein with tofu, a little extra spicy (see new photo). It is just nicely prepared, with a generous serving of veggies, not too oily or salty. Along with egg drop soup and the hot tea they serve for dine-in, it is my cold weather comfort food. I will probably go back soon for their kung pao tofu.

It’s hard to find North American style Chinese sit-down restaurants these days, but this restaurant creates that familiar experience. The cozy dining room, with complementary tea and the fantastic cooking felt exactly like NYC and DC Chinese restaurants I remember from childhood. I’m sure the take-out is great, but come dine in and re-live that Chinese restaurant nostalgia!!

I too ordered from here based on recent positive reviews but this was some of the worst chinese food i have had in my life. The lo mein had zero flavor. The sesame chicken was super salty but no other balancing flavor. The pork fried rice was on the dry side also no flavor that you would expect from this type of dish. The string beans were decently flavored but way overcooked as were the vegetables in the lo mein as well.
