Highly recommended.
Very soft rice noodles(meh), not very wet (the authentic way to do it is not too wet. Couldn’t even explain what i wanted to the staff as the front desk staff were all super Caucasian). Flavor was…fine, somewhat weak.
We were visiting a few of our friends that own store in the same shopping center, so decided what the heck let’s pop in and do the lunch special like old times.
Just as remembered, the restaurant had the same 90s decor and friendly folks there to greet you at the door. And based on the clientele already seated, you could tell this is still very much a locals favorite restaurant.
They also take a traditional approach towards what they offer. We went to wash up before eating, then came back to find T, water, and fried wonton strips with dipping sauce.
A few minutes later, our super friendly server came over and asked if we had any questions. We had a late breakfast, so decided just to order a couple of soups. Everything was delicious as remembered and again, stellar service from the staff.
The only thing we were a little surprised to see was the prices on the menu. Most Chinese restaurants that we frequent Ventura County have lunch specials ranging between $12 and $14 per plate. the average lunch special here was about $16 per plate. And like other lunch specials, it comes with soup and such as well. We were just surprised to see dinner prices for lunch specials.
Great service, good food, and nice atmosphere always make up for a successful restaurant. Peking Inn hits all of these and makes it no wonder that they have been in business all these years now.
We really enjoyed everything we ate!
Crispy Noodles: 10/10
Egg Flower soup 10/10
Pan fried dumplings: 10/10
Bbq pork buns: 9/10
Pan fried soft noodles with chicken: 10/10
Beef and broccoli: 12/10
Orange chicken: 10/10
Hot and crispy shrimp: 12/10
Our lunch line up consisted of;
Hot & Sour Soup – thick and rich with flavor
Hot & Crispy Chicken – deep fried chicken with a toss in spicy sweet sauce
Mongolian Beef steak – with scallions, black pepper and onions sautéed together.
Beef with Black Pepper – it consists of sliced beef that is first marinated in a soy sauce and wine mixture tossed in a black pepper sauce with, onions, and green pepper served on a bead of lettuce.
the green tea was very good too.
The service was very good it wasn’t too busy so we got a nice booth. definitely will return for more yummy Chinese goodness.
Only knocking a star since I do feel it’s like 15-20% too expensive. If it was priced better would be 5 stars and I’d come every week.
It’s the best Chinese food in the county and they’re well known for their homemade dim-sum.
