Our waiter promptly greeted us, took our order, and the food was served within 10 minutes–impressive speed for lunchtime.
I ordered the General Tso’s chicken meal, which came with fried rice and lo mein. The food was hot, fresh, and flavorful. Overall, a great lunch spot with quick service and satisfying food.
You’re not going to go to this restaurant for the atmosphere. When I arrived, the large dining room was half-full of mothballed tables. The other half, maybe 20 tables, held me, another pair of diners, and a whirring Roomba cruising the linoleum floor. That mechanical marvel didn’t exactly offer an impression of cleanliness.
The menu is unremarkable, somewhere between Chinese home cooking and Chinese-American style. There’s several big-print pages of sushi-related items but, as the hurried server informed me, “The chef who does these dishes is out making deliveries, so you can’t order them. Or you could wait, he’ll be back in half an hour.”
If your taste runs to General Tso’s and Pork Lo Mein, you’ll think the menu is grand. Now for the GOOD news!
I ordered the Fried Dumpling appetizer and the Shrimp and Eggplant; the former because everybody makes it, so it’s easy to make comparisons. The menu did not say what sauce accompanies the Shrimp and Eggplant; it turned out to be Garlic Sauce (to give you an idea of the (lack of) depth of the menu, two other items are Shrimp in Garlic Sauce and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce).
The dumplings were as flat as pancakes but, doggone it, they were good! Similarly, the S&E in GS was pretty darn good and a fairly generous portion. When I inquired about the “heat”, the server even brought a monkey-dish of Szechuan Peppers in oil to enhance the flavor.
Altogether, about (are you sitting?) $27 with tip. For ONE person. Prices are high everywhere, sigh.
Their portions are generous and presented to please the customer.
The orders from the sushi bar are made fresh to order.
You can have a seat in a booth or come with a party of 10 and more and be severed at pleasantly arranged tables.
I come quite frequently and have not been disappointed by the service nor the food.
There meals are truly priced very reasonably.
