Everyone was so friendly! Regulars left and right and it was clear this place is a pillar in S St. Paul. I got the wonton soup and the combo #2. Will absolutely be back! Super cheap and filling!

We didn’t know what to expect when we visited Peking Cafe on our travels. It’s a very unassuming little restaurant. The atmosphere is not modern and looks a bit rough. The many over patrons seated inside told me this was a trusted place for good food. Our server was timely and attentive, but not overly friendly. Our food arrived quickly and received a glowing review from most of our family of 5.

This had to have been some of the worst Chinese food ever. I saw the review on the Won Ton soup so I decided to try it. The wontons were mushy, like they had been in liquid for hours and the broth lacked flavor. The general Tso has a spice level of zero. I’ve never seen Sesame Chicken so orange, it was just okay. Same with the Chow Mein and chicken fried rice. Just okay. My biggest disappointment had to have been the Egg Fou Young, since my favorite Chinese restaurant closed a few years ago I’ve been on a search for a replacement but this was not it. They call it meatless. It was burnt with no veggies, not even bean sprouts so it was just a flat fried patty with brown gravy sauce. At $72 dollars I expected a bit more from this institution that has been a staple in SSP for decades.

Absolute hidden gem! My wife and I have visited from Arizona and per my wife’s recommendation we tried out Peking Cafe. WOW! Truly some of the very best Chinese food I’ve ever had. The sesame chicken was cooked to perfection and the cream cheese wontons were incredible. Service was top notch, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Got to chat with the owners and was told they’re the 4th generation running this restaurant. Prices were beyond reasonable especially for the portions and quality. Interior might be dated, but that’s part of the charm. You feel warm and cozy inside like in the good old days. Overall highly recommend as it’s a true gem that will be on our go to list every time we visit the Twin Cities area.

DON’T GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A NUT ALLERGY!!! Something in the fried rice, cream cheese rangoons, or the general tso’s chicken has nuts in it. This info isn’t listed on the menu. All the chicken was dry and chewy, and the general tso’s was somehow dry and chewy while also being mushy. It was flavorless either way. They also give you the tiniest little box of rice with your meal. It’s almost cute. Overpriced and Overrated. For some reason the egg rolls taste kinda funky? I’m unsure of how good they are because they are 4 bucks a piece. Also, refused to let me order over the phone because I had a Florida area code. They don’t accept card.

The chicken fried rice was very flavorful l. The cream cheese Won Ton were stuffed to the brim with cream cheese! Food was fast, fresh and staff were friendly. Decently busy for a weeknight with both dine in and take out service. They also included some homemade sugar cookies with the order. An unexpected treat. Note: this location only accepts cash or check.

A Family Favorite for Decades!
We’ve been loyal patrons of Peking since it first opened in 1970, and it’s still our go-to spot for delicious, comforting Chinese food. The service is always warm and friendly, and the quality of food is consistently amazing.
Despite inflation, the prices remain surprisingly reasonable. The cream cheese wontons are unbeatable–packed with a generous amount of cream cheese and always crispy. Other favorites include the flavorful fried rice, mouthwatering egg rolls, beef Cantonese, and chop suey chow mein.
We highly recommend this place and will continue to do so for years to come!
Pro Tip: They only accept cash or checks, so be prepared!

Have been going here since I was a kid. Always delicious and perfect. No one makes chow mein like Peking. I’m hope there open for another generation
