I have always visited here when I visit my family and last night i went out to eat at peggy’s, the bartender who worked on january 31st 2026, her name started with a T and was a skinny local girl who had her friends try and jump me. she followed me into aunties bar with them while I was with my family who are locals and I feel so disrespected, I have bruises on my beautiful face and nail marks on my soft hands, I am a highly valued person and will be suing if this doesn’t get resolved correctly. I will be telling everyone we know from back home, all of our friends we golf with that they will not be visiting peggy’s or this side of the island due to this incident. Thank you to the bartender who ruined your beautiful local business

A friend that used to go to college in Hilo recommended this place as it was across the street from the Edith Kanakaole venue where we were attending a benefit concert later in the evening.

ATMOSPHERE:
It reminded me of a mix between a Korean and country bar with squeezed-in, button-studded booth seating, and dim lighting. It looked shady but was the total opposite, and was very clean. Truly a local watering hole.

MENU:
App-sized fare of sashimi, chicken wings, fries, steak, calamari, and shrimp.

BEVERAGE:
My Bud aluminum bottles were cheap and ice cold.

We all did shots of lemon drop that were refreshing and not too strong.

FOOD:
Sashimi
The small plate of ahi were fresh and came with the usual shoyu-mustard sauce for dipping.

Steak
Though the menu didn’t state “sizzling”, another table’s one was but ours was not. No biggie as the bone-in New York was perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly to our medium request, and sliced. Highly recommend.

Wing Dings
I’m not sure how many came in the basket but the one I tried, definitely frozen, was crispy with a savory seasoning.

Because we ordered more than 2 beers, we were treated to a generous spread of complimentary apps. What the? You’d NEVER get that anywhere else!? I was told that’s what Hilo bars are known for. We received 3 pieces of chicken wings that were seasoned differently from the wing dings, a plate of kau yuk (Chinese pork), kalua pig & cabbage, karaage chicken though the batter was a bit undercooked, and a green salad. Thanks for that, Peggy’s!

SERVICE:
2 younger female servers helped us, one friendlier than the other, but we’re both good. The elderly male dish washer employee was very friendly and pointed bme in the right direction to the restrooms when he saw I was lost.

OVERALL:
Quaint vibe, cheap beer, good food, great deals, friendly service. Definitely was not on my list of to try’s but will be recommended to others!

Service was slow. One girl was nice and the other one was very rude and had a attitude problem. The pupus took forever to come out and they forgot a few items multiple times. Drinks were weak. Asked for the karaoke book at the beginning of us arriving and never got it left an hour later because our drinks kept staying empty for a long time before we had to start yelling as the girls ran by us.

service super slow. got charged full price for shots that were half the size of what they should have been. When asked the waitress why they were so small, her only answer was “we got slammed earlier and we’re running out of a bunch of stuff.” Never got pupus. Got tired of chasing down the waitresses. Wont be going back anytime soon, which sucks because ive always loved this place.

One of the best bars in town. They make great drinks and the food is delicious! They always have the best sashimi! Peggy’s can’t be beat

Comfortable, slightly off the main highway, but easily accessable. Plenty parking. Standard prices, but pupu’s come out complimentary once its clear you are going to stay and enjoy a few. Family owned, frequented by locals/regulars, all of whom will make you feel like part of the group. Bonus: Prettiest women in Hilo work here.

Best bar every with the worst staff! The little girls “waitresses” dont know basic math. They all have bad attitudes. NO ALOHA! I’ve been coming to peggys for years and this new batch of waitresses have got to be the worst. Please peggy get some new waitresses because your losing money big time because of it. They charged me for a water back for my shot. 3$ for a water. Theres clearly some fraud happening. I took my party of 20 and left to joannes bar where there was lots of Aloha.

Peggy’s has been revamped from the days of Kim’s kareoke lounge it has a more open aesthetic as well as darts in the back, the bathroom s are cleaner and the pupus are still good, of course there’s still karaoke and sports viewing which is good for groups. As for prices; there are cheaper places but Peggy’s won’t break your bank either. Come and enjoy.
