Great family owned and operated, local place for a meal. They also have a selection of alcohol and seafood to-go, and sell local products. Service is quick and friendly, and the food was great – they even have scrapple! The portions were generous and the flavors were like home. The value is good too.

The reviews aren’t clear, but they are open for breakfast on weekends.

Stumbled across this while hunting for the Indian Acres campground (right across the street)! Diner meets Seafood Market, and it was a diamond in the rough! Hands down one of the best steak and cheese sandwiches I’ve had in a while, and the freshly steamed crab smelled amazing! It was an open atmosphere and very clean, while also having the convenience of grab and go drinks and seafood options. The staff were friendly and down to earth, and they were extremely kid friendly. I’ll definitely be popping in there again!

Peanut’s Steak and Seafood – A Hidden Gem Worth Trying!

Don’t let the exterior fool you—Peanut’s Steak and Seafood is absolutely worth a visit! The food is reasonably priced, and the quality exceeded our expectations.

We tried the Prime Rib Cheesesteak, which came loaded with lettuce, tomato, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. We added extra cheese, but honestly, it didn’t even need it! The sandwich was packed with real, hearty cuts of meat—none of that thin, frozen stuff you find elsewhere. It wasn’t greasy, just flavorful and satisfying. The cheesesteak came with mac and cheese, which wasn’t the traditional kind but was still really good.

We also had the Crabcake Sandwich, which was another winner. You can get it with mayo or tartar sauce—we opted for tartar, which tasted like it was house-made. It came with a side, and we went for the green beans with maple bacon—on the sweeter side but still tasty. Both sandwiches were fresh and came with a pickle on the side.

For an appetizer, we had the crab dip, and it was fantastic—you could actually taste the crab, not just filler.

The staff was friendly and interactive, making the dining experience even better. The decor is fitting for the name, with a fishing and water theme.

Portions were generous—our cheesesteak was so loaded we had to take some home, which is never a bad thing! Great value for the price.

We’re already looking forward to coming back for breakfast—the Eggs Benedict meal looks mouthwatering! Definitely worth checking out.

They were selling a lot of crabs ‘to go’ the day I went. I sat down and had lunch with a couple IPA’s from the fridge selection and the shrimp were large as you can see, perfectly cooked, super hot, delicate soft meat with almost a snap when you bite into it. The meal came with 2 sides, no charge for the melted butter, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Kind of tacky chic decor with an old time country store feel to it and about the size of a normal convenience store. There was a family having crabs there and the crabs looked really good, I’ll try those next time. I think the prices were something like females around 40, males around 50 and the extra large were about $65 which were the largest crabs they had available. Overall very reasonable prices. The shrimp was the star of the show, the coleslaw was fresh and home made but had too much mayo for my taste, so I’ll try something different next time. This place is the real deal, it’s what places like Joe’s try to be but can’t replicate the quality and freshness, and from a cost stand point can’t match grade and size of an authentic Mom and Pop seafood place like this.

My wife and I were finished with our Sunday errands and looming for a place to have lunch. We decided to drive 20 minutes out of our way to a place called Peanut’s Steak and Seafood in Spotsylvania Courthouse. From the outside it’s a very unassuming place. However when we walked in, we were greeted by a very friendly server. We sat at one of the relatively few tables they had. I think Peanut’s might be more of a carry out place. They obviously specialized in crabs. On the wall was the Super Bowl specials, which included crabs, crawfish, frogs legs, alligator nuggets. They also had beer in the cold case to go, along with sodas.
Anyway, we sat and ordered drinks. My wife wanted unsweetened ice tea, however they only had sweet tea. She had that, and reported that it wasn’t overly sweet so it was fine. I had a Dr. Pepper, which came bottled. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer. They were very good, nicely breaded and hot.
My wife ordered two soft shell crabs, one made into a sandwich. She loves soft shell crabs, and said that these were quite good sized and very good. I had a Ribeye Steak Sandwich, medium, with baked beans. The steak was decent, and it may have been medium rare instead of medium. However to me over-cooking is the greater sin so it was fine.
We enjoyed Peanut’s, and if we’re in the area again, we would certainly come back.

Too bad I can’t give it less than 1 star!! The worst seafood I have had in the area hands down. Went to pickup food for my wife for mother’s day we had ordered to pick up at 3 and once there they didn’t have my order ready. Stated it would be ready in 10 mins I figured ok they are busy being its mothers day weekend but was actually closer to 30 mins. Once I got the food it was all cold!!
As far as the food…
Crab cakes- do yourself a favor and get some from foodlion up the street as they will surely be better!

Steamed Shrimp- ha ordered heavy seasoning and was hardly and at all, very plain!

Fried shrimp were horrible my kids would not even eat them!

Mac and cheese appeared to be right out the box and may have been the best part of the food, which isn’t saying much!

Hush puppies- ok but still seemed to be frozen and heated up to serve.

Alligator bites- cold and ok I guess but not much to compare it to.

Baked potato- not thoroughly cooked, hard and the worst ever. I can make better for sure, but I don’t advertise and sell mine!!

I spent $140.00 on food there and if I had known the quality would have just went to a fast food place!! Do yourself a favor and go up the street to Dixie Joe’s they have much better seafood and I have never had cold food from there and order always ready on time!!

I am beyond unhappy with Peanut’s seafood they have ruined what should have been a great meal for mothers day for my family. We will have to start over and try to cook a different meal, they wasted my time and money and I would highly recommend to any one who thinks about trying Peanut’s to just go somewhere else. I have lived in the area my whole life and will be sure to tell everyone I know or meet in the area to not go here, again just go a couple miles up the street to Dixie Joe’s!!!

My new favorite place. Love to go to local family run restaurants. Service was great, food fantastic. They have frog legs, venison and gator! I wasn’t as adventurous today and had the shrimp and crab platter. Came with 2 sides, salad and a baked potato. Cole slaw is home made and was delicious. My baked potato had vasts amount of butter (which I loved). Plenty of food. My husband had the frog legs and he said they were delicious. Onion rings were nice and crispy. We will be going tomorrow to try the gator and the venison! The menu jas a lot to.offer, oysters, gator, crab, king crab, shrimp, scallops, steak. We are excited. They also have a small store and sell steamed crabs, oysters, shrimp. This place is a little gem. Dine in or take out. Great restaurant f you want a fresh, well priced friendly local place!

Peanut’s is a small mom and pop style establishment. The staff is super friendly and they made sure we were taken care of. They have some seating inside, but we took advantage of the good weather and sat outside. The freshly steamed crabs were outstanding!! Crabs aren’t cheap and when you buy them you want to feel like you get your money’s worth. We definitely did! They came out steamed perfectly and wonderfully seasoned. They were Louisiana crab and really meaty. Peanut’s is about an hour outside of Richmond, but we have already decided we will go back again. Maybe with some friends. It’s definitely worth the trip!

Had the crawdads, alligator, and froglegs with side of taters and brown gravy special today. Very tasty and not a big fight to eat. Pretty good menu selection. I’ll be coming back again!
