Pawley’s Front Porch is one of those restaurants that has a lot of potential, but hasn’t quite reached it yet.

I went on two (2) occasions, once on a Tuesday night, and once on a Saturday afternoon. On both occasions, the bartenders and servers were nice, but slow and inattentive. Both times I went, I had to flag them down for more drinks and to close out. I got the impression that others were having the same problem, as one patron just asked for a refund rather than their order, and another guest looked annoyed and walked down the bartender to close out their tab.

The first night I went, on Tuesday, I enjoyed the outdoor patio, but it was a little dark and felt a little too much like a nightclub. Because of this, it’s probably not the type of place I’d go if I wanted to converse or interact with friends. I will say however, that the chicken tenders and fries were very good, and well above average.

On Saturday, I sat at the indoor bar, and tried all of the establishment’s IPAs. I’d say that two out of the three (2/3) were pretty good, and that they had a nice indoor setup. Again, the bartender seemed like a cool guy, but I feel like my beers were underpoured and I was missing out on a sip or two (2) of my drink. I think they were well understaffed, as there was a line outside the door when I left, but many tables left empty as well.

All-in-all, I’d say that Pawley’s Front Porch is a high-quality restaurant and bar, but they need to get their staffing problems in check, as well as perfect the little details that go a long way in maximizing the restaurant experience.

I had to make a quick trip to Columbia for business one Friday afternoon. I asked the Mrs if she wanted to go and we could find somewhere new to get dinner. A couple of the yungins heard “dinner” and invited themselves along. So much for date night.

We took a look at a couple online sources and decided on Pawleys Front Porch. It was rated pretty highly. We also saw it was on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. This place is definitely of the dive variety.

I don’t know what their specialty is, but I know what it isn’t. Everything was sticky. The food, the table, the chairs the menus… in fact, the menus all stuck together when stacked.

The food was good. Not bad, not great, not special. My chicken paninni was good but was difficult to eat. The chickens constantly fell out of the sandwich. Mamma-n-them liked thier burgers well enough. The high spot was the fries. They were hot and crispy. The young lady who waited on us did I nice job.

Did i mention they have a front porch? There are some tables and outside access to the bar. The bar was pretty well attended. We were the only table getting food at 4pm on Friday. It probably picks up later. This place seems like it would attract an evening crowd

We have visited many Triple D restraunts around the country. They are fun to try and typically (but not always) a good experience. Unless we missed something, Pawleys is living on past glory. A comment made by the Mrs as we exited to the parking lot sums it up. “Look, Chick Fil A, we should have gone there.”

First time visiting Pawley’s, late afternoon on a Saturday. They have their own parking out back and there were plenty of spaces at that time. It took a few minutes to be greeted, and then was told there was a 10-15 minute wait for an inside table, though the place was only half full. As it turned out, they seemed to be severely understaffed. Nonetheless, once we were seated, Autumn provided outstanding service, with a smile. We ordered a draft beer and cider, neither of which was very cold. My friend opted for a canned cider instead, which was plenty cold. One of the specials was potato skins, which were delicious. We also tried to order the zucchini sticks, but were told they were out. We ordered two burgers, one medium rare, which basically was overcooked with the exception of one corner lol. The medium well burger was cooked to temp. Both were good burgers, though they only had brioche buns, they were out of the other options. I would normally have enjoyed the fresh cut fries, but they were luke warm at best. I want to emphasize that the service was excellent, but I think Pawley’s is a one and done for me.

Whatever it was that made this place good enough to get Guy Fieri to bring DDD to visit…is LONG gone! Burgers tasted decent, but the prep wasn’t as advertised (missing pickles, kitchen out of items, fried green tomatoes not fried, not cooked all the way through, pimento cheese was green…how do you even do that??). Service was slower than Congress. We placed a to-ho order that we never got and wasn’t on our check. After we’d been there for 80min (finished eating for more than 20) we just walked out without the to-go. Every other table also had terribly slow service. No drink refills even offered. The bathroom was FILTHY! Mold and mildew in the toilet, a dirty sink with a clump of hair in the drain. The restaurant didn’t look much better. Table was sticky (very old wax/lacquer finish on the wood needs to be re-done). Everything on the walls was faded from the sun. It was a SAD and depressing experience – by far the least-impressive of any DDD restaurant we have ever been to.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The food was terrible. I don’t know how you mess up a hot dog and a chicken Caesar wrap but this place managed to do it. Not only did we have to wait over 20 mins for a waitress to come take our drink orders, when we ordered waters she brought us a Diet Coke and a sweet tea. Not sure how you mess that up but easy fix whatever. Then she dissapears for 15 mins and finally comes back to take our food order. After ordering our food we waiting almost and HOUR! For a hot dog and a wrap! Absolutely ridiculous. Our waters were not refilled one time and when our food finally arrived it was inedible. Actually disgusting to put it Frank. And to top it all off when our waitress finally (after disappearing again for over 20 mins) took our card brought back someone else’s credit card and laid it down as if it was our card. Luckily my mother and I are honest people and quickly let her know that wasn’t our card but God forbid she did that to someone else! Credit card information would’ve been stolen for sure! I would never come back here and honestly don’t even know how it’s still open.

Unbelievable. Best burger i have ever had. Like not joking. Im fat. Ive eaten alot of burgers in my 32 years. This was the best one to date. Absolutely insane. We asked for a knife to cut our burgers and they said we couldn’t have knives in the dining room. So our server had to take our burgers and ask the cook to cut our burger in half like my mom used to do for my chicken nuggies when I was 6. Staff was amazing. I reccomend this place to anyone and everyone!!,

This was our first time here and in town. The service was OK. The lady at the front said we have one table available but it’s not by a TV is that ok? I said that would be fine and my niece was in the restroom. She said, “Oh ok. That’s great”, and took me to the table that was so close to the restroom that we were almost in it. The line was so long, and the whole time, peoples rear ends were in our face. I’m not going to forget to mention that when our food came, so did the flies and gnats. However, the food was pretty good and everything moved swiftly.

While visiting Columbia from out of town we ate at Pawley’s because of the Diner’s, Drive-In, & Dives connection. This place has slot of potential, but fell a bit flat for us. The atmosphere was a bit unwelcoming…just felt kind of “industrial.” The fries and slaw were great, but the burgers did not live up to my expectations. I love smash burgers and these were not smashed. The patty was dry and lacked flavor; however, the topping were gold. If you are looking for great burger, this will not fit the bill. If you need to fill the burger craving, you can do that here.

We went to Pawleys last week with my in-laws and two kids. It was the day after Thanksgiving, so we were fully expecting slower-than-normal service…we were there for nearly 2 hours! This was unacceptable especially since there were hardly any other customers there. First, before we even sat down we asked for a high chair. It took the host a good 10 minutes to return with one even though the high chairs were literally right behind the server’s desk. Second, we ordered chips and queso right away as an appetizer since we were all very hungry and the kids were getting restless. 45 minutes later, we finally receive the appetizer but at the same time as our meal, thus defeating the purpose of an appetizer (plus the queso was basically cold…) At this point, we were all hangry and frustrated. Never received refills on our waters. Took another 20+ minutes to receive our bill. Fair warning, there is a teeny tiny little line on the bill that says gratuity is built in already…well, in our hurry to get out of there we did not see that line and gave a nice tip since we know college students are struggling for money, so what would have been an already generous $20 tip turned out to be close to $40, on top of the overpriced food. Bathroom was disgusting. And no apologies or acknowledgement of the slow service. We will not be returning…

Went around 12/9 for lunch, wasn’t too busy and our meals did not take long. Very broad options on the menu and spacious seating. Our waiter was good and was attentive when it came to drink refills and checking in on us. The highest price meal in our party was 16 dollars but good portions of food and the burgers are very nicely sized as well.
