We ordered:
Pleaser fries, 2 pleaser double burgers add bacon and fried egg.
The bartender took our order and put it in just based off memory so we ended up getting someone else’s order and then our order came out. Weird?
The burger: huge! The double was more than enough. Good but missing something. The bun was a bit mushy which some like and some don’t. I liked the bun! A bit too heavy on the grilled onions.
Overall: the burger is definitely a solid drunk food burger.
Imagine a dive bar, that had had a bit of a face lift and a solid food menu and you have small bar. Tucked away within a neighborhood like a true Chicago tavern, small bar has drafts for $8, bottles and cans starting at $4 and. Single cheesburger called The Pleaser (3/5) for $8. I really enjoyed the pleaser, it’s a very solid burger overall. It had perfectly caramelized onions, cheese and pleaser sauce. It had a pickle, which normally i love, but felt out of place on this burger. The French fries are also solid, perfectly salted and thin and crispy. No crinkle cut here!
Also I’m pretty anti-TV in a Chicago Dive but it was SO nice to see they had one frame tv playing March madness, meaning when the game goes off it can go back to being a piece of art. Loved that so much.
Overall would recommend visiting, if you’re in the neighborhood or want a quick, casual lunch. I’ll probably come back, but definitely think there are some better burgers in the city. However, you absolutely can’t beat the price, the ambience, the staff or the vibes!
The burger here is great, but I was disappointed in its size. It looked way bigger in videos and promo pics. It also barely had any onions. I could’ve eaten two of them and this was a double.
Mine came with slightly burnt onions on some of the edges (taste-wise, not only color). This is ok as I only felt it in like 2 bites. Maybe the pan was too hot, just please be careful as these burnt bits give off bitter flavors.
Overall, taste to price ratio, you really can’t complain, and the service was fast and friendly.
Their smashburger is truly incredible. Ordered the classic double (easy mayo, no ketchup) cheeseburger with a fried egg; added fries on the side. The smashburger was cooked perfectly on the griddle with crispy edges on patties that was sizabley larger than the bun. The ratio of meat to bun was just right. The salty, skinny fries complimented the unctuous beef.
The staff and team was friendly and welcoming! Open late for the night owls, a definite stop to power up before calling it a night!!
It’s served in foil-lined parchment and the burger is cut in half. I did not appreciate the little flecks of foil from the cut that ended up on the cross section of my burger though.
The crispy halo on the patty was present and prominent, and that is all I ask for when eating a smashburger.
