This historic hotel and cafe/restaurant is a gem. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We love the historic feel of the place without the mustiness. This place is well kept and clean and gives you a nostalgic feeling. Loved the paintings through the restaurant.

Pattee Cafe is in the historic Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa . I came
here to try the Eggs Benedict. My one star review is based solely on the Eggs Benedict. I have a “top ten” list for these. After our visit I could not rate it even in the top 30.
My rating is based on 3 weights :
70% = taste
20% = presentation
10% = price
With that in mind :
70% = taste: Hollandaise was tasteless & runny. Hash browns were awful (see picture)
Asked for easy, soft poached eggs. Had to send back to correct. Could not eat the Hash browns. The English muffin was toasted but soggy.
20% = presentation: hard to describe (see picture)
10% = price: over priced.
NOW WITH THAT SAID : The chef came out and talked with us about the meal. He apologized for the Benedicts and said that he is not a breakfast cook and not used to cooking it. We discussed and critiqued the “Bennys” . He said they are a new management and still working on the menu.
We will give them some time and try it again later on.
The waiter was friendly and cordial.
The only day for the “Bennys” is on Sunday brunch .

We had hotel reservations for Mom’s funeral the equivalent of 7 nights between the 3 children. Stopped for drinks and what should have been dinner for 6, we ordered 2 gin and tonics and 2 old fashioneds. Hard to screw up gin and tonics and you’d have thought the same for old fashioneds. My wife and I had a sip, it was terrible. Tasted like it was carbonated. Asked the waitress – yep, they added club soda. We stated it should be bourbon and simple syrup. The replacements? Almost as bad – no simple syrup and maraschino cherries. We indicated to the waitress we couldn’t drink these – her response was “sorry” and walked away. So we paid for 4 drinks of which 2 were consumed. To add insult to injury, when we came back from dinner at another establishment, the clerk at the front desk asked how dinner was. We said it was not what was expected so we went elsewhere and she asked how that was. ??? Very good, thank you. I’m at a loss how nobody tried to make this experience right. I lived in Perry for 24 years and have frequented the diner and bar multiple times and have never had such a poor experience. Dining options exist in Perry and Pattee Cafe is no longer an option for us.

Had supper….chef salad with lemon vinaigrette. Told the waitress Id like a 55 gallon barrel of the vinaigrette to go please. Wasn’t really kidding. It was the perfect balance of vinaigrette and a hint of sweet citrus! It enhanced without overpowering. The greens were fantastic and fresh. It was the perfect light summer meal that chased away the humidity without begging me down. The staff were smiling and made sure we had everything we could need. They were efficient without seeming stressed. Everyone around us tucked into delicious looking dishes as well. My table mate got perfectly cooked pork chops that smelled absolutely divine! The whipped potatoes that came along with looked very light and almost made me regret following my low carb eating plan! I was again tempted mightily when I heard rumors of Tiramisu being offered for dessert. Sometimes being good and following a meal plan just sucks. But I can go back and im sure they would keep my secret indulgences just that. If you haven’t been yet….what exactly are you waiting for? It cost me less than the burger joints and was so much healthier. Even the more traditional fare was exceptionally reasonable in price so don’t let that stop you! Go already!!

I was part of a small group riding bikes through Perry. We noticed the court yard and decided to stop.
We enjoyed their coffee and cinnamon rolls.

Great evening, easy ride to Perry for a deliciousness !! Give the honey Sriracha cauliflower a try… Remarkable! The butterfinger cheesecake was fabulous!!! I had the chicken Marsala, tender and tasty. Mrs. Had the tortellini Alfredo, was creamy but not heavy, thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful place, real craftsman style decor. Thanks for being there..!

My wife and I have been to the Cafe many of times for breakfast and lunch but had dinner for the first time last night. The service has always been very good and last night was no exception. We had a Filet De burgo that was unbelievable. Looking forward to doing it again and spending the night at one of the suites at the hotel. We highly recommend !! Great place to spend time with my amazing wife 🙂
