Pasty Kitchen’s new location 5091 Ball Rd Cypress CA 90630, same parking lot as Joe Schmoes.

I got the corned beef and cabbage pasty, it’s my favorite and unfortunately they didn’t serve it all year. So wonderful! The beef pasty is fantastic too!

Stop on by this week (3/6/25) to try their corned beef and cabbage pasty!

I’ve been a fan of Pasty Kitchen and visited the original location in Los Alamitos for years. I’m glad this new location opened up—plenty of parking with the same quality, and friendly service.

Every pasty pie tastes homemade and filling. My favorite is the chicken pasty, but I also enjoy beef and specials like the Italian pasty. I always get a large chicken gravy to add extra flavor and moisture to each bite. The beef gravy is also perfect for the beef pasty. I also get small pies, as they are the ideal size for me as a meal.

There are also salads to pair with the pasty pies. I recently got the macaroni salad, and although I prefer a creamier version, this was enjoyable. You can’t forget the cookies and dessert pies, which satisfy a sweet tooth. Frozen pies are also occasionally available to warm up throughout the week.

Inside, you can see the staff working hard and a counter display with some goodies, but there aren’t any seats inside or outside. The only options are to take out, eat in your car, or relax at a park nearby. I am happy to support this long-standing, local business.

Came across this place after having Thai next-door. Definitely reminds me of a family owned mom and pop food store. The customer service was top-notch and the food definitely looked very appealing to the eyes. I had the beef mud pie and it was pretty good. Probably could use a little bit more salt/flavor, but the quality and size portion was excellent. Definitely recommend this place.

The food was great. I’m glad they don’t over salt their food as I have high blood pressure. But they do have salt and the gravey on the side of you want to add any or use hot sauce . The cookies I have had were really good so this time I ordered a snickerdoodle and a chocolate chip cookie and banana pudding. They cookies were over cooked. Very hard not what I’m used to getting. So someone over cooked them. I don’t think I will be getting anymore cookies unless I can get a fresh batch and not so dark they were clearly over cooked. I would have thrown them in the trash than give such a good place a bad review on the cookies. They were not good at all I threw them away.

So I’ve driven past this place a number of times at the Cypress location, but had occasion to stop in and try it for the first time today.

I made the mistake of ordering 2 “small” size pasties – one beef and one chicken. These things are deceptively heavy and jam-packed with fresh ingredients!

They offered gravy as a side option (not for me). The only pasties I’ve tried (in many places in the world using that same term) were more like turnover-shaped (like the fruit offerings here), while these were big, fat round filled versions. Had I known it would weight what felt like a pound or so (ok, maybe not that heavy, but very substantial), I definitely would’ve only ordered one.

I was surprised that, although pre-made and ready to go, in the middle of the late afternoon, they were very hot and fresh! The pic attached is of the chicken one – jam packed with fresh potatoes, carrots, and lots of chicken). And piping hot!

For my personal taste, it was quite… bland. VERY filling, and very fresh, but also quite bland. Pasties I’ve had before (from varying cultures and preparations) have all been a bit more savory and with maybe some “juice” built in, but these, while not really “dry,” needed something (IMHO).

They definitely filled the void in my empty stomach, and if I had no other local options, sure, I’d try them again. But… just not interesting enough for me to repurchase.

That being said, everyone working there was quite friendly and efficient. And oh – zero seating inside, this is strictly a take-away location. But it fits nicely in your hand in the car.

I was excited to try this spot, especially since I love this kind of food, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The pastries are very good, but the filling was extremely salty and undercooked, which left me feeling bloated and stuffed afterward. Also, also the gravy was so salty. If you enjoy salty food, you might like it, but if you’re not a fan of that, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. The portions are large and the prices are affordable, which is a plus, but I wasn’t a fan of how it was served. On the bright side, the chicken was tender, and the macaroni salad was actually very good. By the way, it’s only available take out only. Overall, it’s a hit or miss depending on your taste preferences!

Its been a long time since i had something so delicious i felt i needed to write a review.
Ordered the beef pie, small gravy, and a potato salad for about $9. It was super filling and amazing! The pie was so warm and stuffed FULL of meat & filling, the gravy was hot & savory, and the potato salad is old school and seasoned perfectly. Will definitely be back.

Variations of food is on point. The beef empanada was a good portion and good price . Only complaint I have is it needed more flavor. Too bland .

Sister location on Katella.
I was told by the employees this is their commissary. So it’s for takeout, no dining in options.
Pasties (hand held meat pies) are served PIPING HOT with two kinds of gravy : one for chicken, and another for beef.
Fills a very particular need for hot and savory, especially in the fall or colder winter months. Crust is sot but not doughy. Fillins are tender and very tasty.
And they hook you in with the deal on yesterday’s cookies – c’mon they are still fantastic. I’m a sucker for oatmeal raisin, more than chocolate chip, but they were both delicious even a day later.

I ordered one beef, one chicken, one apple ,and one cherry. They were all so good. The crust is great and the meat pies are so well seasoned. Perfect amount of potatoes and carrots. The only thing I lament is not getting gravy. The large pies are a full meal! I’m in love ❤️
