Recently had the pleasure of meeting the owner Frank and he’s awesome! This was my first time trying food from his Italian deli and it did not disappoint! The hoagie tray was stacked with fresh bread, quality meats, and perfect balance in every bite. The chicken cutlet tray was a standout with crispy chicken so many different flavors. The spaghetti and meatballs tasted like a true homemade Sunday dinner and the cheese ravioli was rich and comforting. The real star, though, was the homemade mozzarella—fresh, creamy, and next-level delicious. Everything was generous, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Perfect for catering or feeding a hungry crowd. Highly recommend!

OK this place gets a 4.66 out of 5… losing 1/3rd of a star only because it could be a touch more chaotic — as my favorite Italian delis tend to be.
That’s not a hard fast rule as this AMAZING deli proves. In fact, some Italian delis serving up the BEST food are almost empty and devoid of all clutter. They tend to be flooded in bluish white fluorescent lights, have one formica table with boxes and paper menus stacked on top, and a chipped formica counter with a cash register sitting on it. Maybe a drink fridge… and THAT”S IT. By that measure this place is a Michelin star resto.
Anyway, this place IS a dream and has everything Italian take out / import you could realistically want – at a reasonable price – and they are South Philly to the core. Serving up, quite literally (it’s undisputed!) THE BEST hoagies.

This is one of those places that are like a hidden gem in South Philly. Tucked away in the corner of a small shopping center right next to Chickie’s this place has it all. They have delicious and stacked hoagies on fresh bread, all types of hot food that you can imagine and they even have an olive/salad (think like macaroni salad,etc) bar. Besides the usual small selection of canned goods and all, they also carry imported goods as well. I love that I can get a Torrone bar that’s imported from Italy as well as other authentic Italian candies. Easter and Christmas time you’ll find Pannetone and Easter baskets full of Italian candies and sweets. I think they also have a raffle for the basket. You can also get freshly made and refrigerated pasta and other items such as a meatballs and pasta platter for one and they also sell fresh rolls and other stuff. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Anthony who is one of the owners there and he is a true gentleman. There are other South Philly places like this, but there’s only one Pastaficio. Try it once and you’ll be a customer forever!

Grabbed some hoagies before the Eagles game and this place didn’t disappoint. I had the Maria with spinach, hubby had Italian and our son had the chicken parm cutlet sandwich. All were delicious and the rolls were dark and crunchy seeded. Stopped back in to take some back home with us. Grabbed meatballs, sauce and fresh lasagna sheets. The staff was so sweet and helpful. A great gem in South Philly right by Chickie & Petes.

Great place for a big south philly style Italian sandwich, but I’ll often just get a pound of Thumann’s Italian Roast Beef and 6 fresh hard rolls to take home. If you order a pound, you can grab a container of roast beef juice from the freezer case. I think they have available from their own in-house roast beef. In any case, it’s great to have a deli case that carries Thumann’s. They also tend to have a modest selection of imported pre-packaged foods like chocolates, Italian Peach Iced Tea in 1.5 L bottles or things a bit more exotic. Anyways, loved them for years. Maybe try them a bit before or after the lunch rush if you can.

I got the cheesesteak rice ball and cheesesteak raviolis. Everybody loves this place so I am going to complain. 1. I love bread pudding. They had a handmade sign; ‘New Item!! Homemade Bread Pudding.’ I got very excited and ordered the Bread pudding. They were sold out!! 2. I didn’t see my picture on the wall of fame. The Phanatic is on there twice. Granted we all love the Phanatic. But come on. Two of him/her/it and none of me?!?!? 3. I was racially profiled. They knew I wasn’t a south Philly Italian and gave me ketchup with my raviolis. I felt like Henry Hill at the end of Goodfellas, I’m a nobody. -sidebar- The raviolis were undercooked but that is okay. I found a new way to cook them. 1 minute in the microwave and 3 minutes in the Air Fryer. Video of air fried raviolis at end of review video. It was my 1st rice ball. I liked it. The raviolis (minus the ketchup) were very good.

Been wanted to check Pastificio Deli for awhile now, so I decided to take a bike ride out there to finally check it out. The atmosphere inside the deli was great, very clean and organize with welcoming and friendly staff. I order an Italian hoagie and the cheesesteak ravioli, the Italian hoagie was great the seeded roll was bake to perfection one of the softest seeded roll I had in awhile. The cheesesteak ravioli with the Sriracha ketchup was outstanding, and to top it off they make homemade pasta as well 100% authentic. I definitely recommend checking Pastificio Deli out if your in the South Philly area, you would not be disappointed.

One of the best chicken cutlet, sharp provolone, and broccoli rabe sandwiches you’ll have in Philadelphia. Pastificio is a staple in South Philly. Plenty of options to choose from, and even some amazing homemade pasta to take back home. Old school authentic Italian delicatessen.

Stopped here before a sixers game, and I was not expecting to have SUCH a good hoagie. Always have to try one hot and one cold. The italian had a great variety of quality meats and had a perfect ratio of meat to toppings. The OMG cutlet was simple but tasty- we chose the grilled version and it was like a caprese salad in a hoagie. Would return for sure to try another style. Staff was awesome too, and prices were super reasonable.
