I had an amazing experience at Pastaio in Royal Oak! The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, but what really stood out was the service. Chris went above and beyond to make sure everything was spot-on from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable—he really elevated the whole dining experience. If you come here (and you should!), I definitely recommend asking to sit in Chris’s section. Can’t wait to come back!

First of all, I wanna say that Axel was our waiter and he was absolutely amazing and he has nothing to do with the horrific service score. We got to the restaurant at 6:25 and we were not served our meal until 8:10 PM. Axel apologize profusely gave us three plates of bread and did everything that he could while we waited.
The food was excellent. I can’t say a bad word about it, but the service was absolutely horrific. They were out of soup, they were out of fettuccine and they were out of eggplant.

The quality of food does not match the price. They overcooked all 3 pizzas, dark and brittle. See photos. The free bread was good. The shrimp pasta was ok. The bathroom stall had a single roll of TP just resting on the hand rail, requiring people to put their fingers in the middle. Yuck. There was NO SOAP in either dispenser! Be warned: They charge 3.25% extra for using a credit card. They said they had to charge us extra for each split of the bill because we didn’t ask to split before ordering. Music is loud and makes conversation challenging.

We recently hosted a bridal shower in the private room at Pastaio in Royal Oak, and everything was absolutely perfect. The room looked stunning with its modern yet warm atmosphere, and the staff went above and beyond to make the event seamless.
The food was incredible—everyone raved about the Caesar salad, pasta dishes, salmon, and especially the chicken piccata. And the tiramisu? Truly out of this world! The service was attentive and personable, and our guests can’t wait to come back to enjoy more meals here.
Highly recommend Pastaio for any special occasion or a great night out!

We were at the Emagine Royal Oak one evening and decided to go out for a late dinner around 10:00pm and we found this place. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant and we sat on the rooftop. The weather was great and it was quiet since the place was almost empty. Our server was Sam and she was delightful and had a great personality. The bread they brought to the table was covered in Parmesan and was so good, I can’t say I’ve had bread that was that good which is strange. It was so good, I might go back just for that bread. The grilled octopus appetizer was also great. I had the short rib ragu entree and it was excellent. We are definitely going back to this place and really recommend it! I don’t have a single complaint about this place, the staff and food were all great.

It’s really hard finding a truly good Italian restaurant in Michigan. Having grown up in NY and having gone to Italy, my standards are really high. But this is it. This is the spot to go to. This place was excellent on a whole different level and the service you get for the prices was amazing. The pasta and bread are all made fresh at Pastaio. You can taste all the flavors as they work together even in their Bolognese sauce and you can tell that they spent hours perfecting it. The meatballs melted in your mouth. I would totally return here!

Where is the happiest place on earth, no it’s not Disneyland, it’s Pastaio in Royal Oak. That is the feeling we get when we interact with the staff. There is magic in the air, I don’t know how management has gathered the finest employees in one location, but they did and that is what makes it a joy to have dinner here. Yesterday we came to celebrate two birthdays with 6 people. We ordered the lasagna as usual that they upgraded recently WOW it is the best we have ever had and I’m Italian. All of our guests loved the entire evening and fantastic service. One very fussy person ordered the seafood special and loved it. Please order dessert here all made on site even the whipped cream. The Manager Ryan is always over looking everything going on. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner. This is not a large chain restaurant that does not care about anything but money. Pastaio cares about its customers and staff, and it shows.

What an amazing place! The food was top notch! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! The service – the crew takes care of you as soon as you walk in, to when you leave! I have never been waited on as best as this staff! Classic environment! The only bummer is that I live in Columbus Ohio and there is nothing around here like this place! A must stop!

Went in not knowing what to expect and was delighted. The food is great. Roman style pizza was charred perfectly with a generous amount of toppings. Pasta portion was huge – enough for two or three. Carpaccio was lovely too. Even the chocolate cake was very good. The service was incredibly friendly and very efficient.
