It’s great to have a casual dinner spot right in the Castro, perfect for dinner before a night out.

Went with a group of 6 and had no problem grabbing a table on a Saturday night. The service was quick, food was hot and fresh, and vibe was warm. Nothing flashy, but gets the job done.

The chicken marsala was really good, especially with the shaved Brussels sprouts and carrot — unusual, but delicious. The spaghetti con polpette is one of their signature dishes, and the meatballs are massive and filling.

My one recommendation would be to consider sharing the pastas – of the 4 people at our table who ordered pastas, none could finish them. The portions are huge!

We enjoyed a nice lunch here in October 2025. Homemade Butternut squash ravioli with asparagus was delicious. Garlic bread was yummy. Friendly service and very relaxing.

A hidden gem of a place. The restaurant is unassuming and unfussy. Just sit down, order and enjoy your meal. The key to a good pasta place is that ingredients are fresh and it is served hot at the table.

Pasta Panino nails it. Hot, delicious, fresh. Quantities are very generous for the price you pay. Service was great.

Don’t miss out on the shaved Brussels sprouts.

Pasta Panino in the Castro District of San Francisco is a true hidden gem. The service was absolutely fantastic—attentive, welcoming, and efficient. The garlic cheese bread was delicious, though I’d recommend adding a bit more cheese for an extra indulgent touch. The lasagna, however, was simply off the charts—not only packed with incredible flavor but also served in an impressively generous portion.

For anyone seeking quality Italian cuisine at a reasonable price, this spot is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

This is our favorite place ( only place) to eat i the Castro. The prices seem pretty reasonable by city standards. The service is friendly and quick but casual not formal.
The pasta is really good. Perfectly cooked.
there are a variety of dishes available. I like the basics. One glaring omission for me is chicken parm which I was really in the mood for.
i do think the prices may have gone up a little since last time. They have good garlic bread and fried calamari. i had bread putting. The caramel glaze and the ice cream made it good but the bread pudding itself wasn’t my favorite. The atmosphere and decor are basic. Everything about this place is simple
and straightforward without pretense.
Over all this continues to be our go to place in the castro.

All you need is a table and chairs to enjoy good food! And that is exactly how I’d describe this place, may not look anything eye-catchy, but it has tables and chairs and the best food on the block! My favorite hole-in-the wall, locally owned Italian restaurant in the bay. The chef literally puts love into his plates, and the service is beyond friendly – it’s a place you would be proud to bring your Italian grandparents to!

Excellent, well prepared and fairly priced Italian food! The staff was super friendly and attentive and thoughtful enough to bring out 2 sharing plates for my husband I- we shared the plate of spaghetti and meatballs which was sufficient for 2 people and left space for more menu items. The calamari was DELICIOUS and a couple of fried lemon slices in it was a good touch. The spaghetti felt like good ole home cooking without the frills. I can’t wait to go back!

I can’t speak to the atmosphere because I’ve only done curbside pickup which is awesome in SF. Parking is not fun here. The guys are always polite & even happily went back inside for condiments.
Now the lasagne is the best I’ve had in a long time! I can’t stop thinking about it.

I rarely write poor reviews but have a few thoughts about this restaurant. The Caesar salad and garlic bread was very tasty, but the butternut squash ravioli and chicken Marsala dishes would have Italian grandmothers rolling over in their graves.

The butternut squash was covered in frozen corn and peas and very unappetizing. The $24 chicken Marsala was sliced, dry chicken over various sautéed vegetables. The sauce was unlike any chicken Marsala I have ever had without the taste of Marsala wine but almost like a spicy enchilada sauce. I really should have said something but I chose not to.

If you are expecting authentic Italian food I would steer clear of this restaurant but if you are open to interesting new flavors this might be the spot for you.

The Caesar salad was very tasty and well made but the two main dishes were not something I would order again. Please see the photos.

Great food with quick and friendly service in a simple cafe environment.
Recommendations to try are the Bruschetta starter and the Chicken Marsala main. Both are great!
