Reviews
The menu setup was a bit unusual though. There were no suggested pasta dishes, so you have to pick your own ingredients and sauces. Since I’m not Italian, it took me a little time to figure it out. The portions were large, but the taste didn’t quite match the hype. The marinara sauce tasted like something straight from a supermarket jar rather than being made in-house, especially when the reviews mentioned home-style cooking. The roasted bell pepper and mozzarella appetizer also seemed to come from cans, not freshly prepared in the kitchen.
By the end of the meal, one of us decided not to take the leftovers, which almost never happens. The service and ambiance were great, but sadly, the food didn’t live up to its reputation. With so many truly good Italian restaurants in the area, we probably won’t be coming back.
perfection. The calamari appetizer with lemon and two sauces was so hot and a great way to start. The pasta fagioli was so home made tasting, I got nostalgic and wanted to cry. But honestly, maybe the best part was the way we were greeted and treated. Flavio is just adorable. HE WANTS YOU TO BE THERE AND HE WANTS YOU TO LOVE EVERYTHING! His wife, Gina, who is too shy to leave the kitchen, is the talented chef who obviously cooks from the heart. Bring wine (BYOB) and have a memorable meal.
PLEASE DON’T EAT HERE. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE REVIEWS. They must be fake because I’ve never had such bad food out of a 4.8 star restaurant. Our whole order was an absolute disgrace. We order fried calamari, Cesar salad, spaghetti marinara for our 2 year old (whose birthday we were celebrating) and an arrabiata pasta for us with “fresh” mozzarella. The calamari was clearly frozen from a bag, the Cesar salad were mixed greens instead of lettuce, the fresh mozz were little balls like the ones you buy at the grocery store- 100% not fresh; and both pasta sauces were un-eatable. When I let the person in charge know about the quality of our order he told me he was not the owner so there was nothing he could do. He then proceeded to tell me that it’s not his fault that none of us didn’t like their food. And that this sometimes happens. UNREAL. How do you mess up marinara for a toddler is beyond me. Do yourself a favor and avoid this awful experience lowest food quality I’ve had in a really long time.
As far as everything else, have to say restaurant fell a bit short on my expectations. Atmosphere was non existent. We were the only clients there, which was a bit sad. Hopefully this place picks up on weekends as we did go through the week. The decor is not impressive. I am not a fan of the paint they did there, but I understand they wrre trying to keep the “Italian style” theme. On the back entrance, you have random sports memorabilia which does not fit in. Kind of feels like it was left over from whomever occupied the space prior. Italian music playing, which is a nice touch. Kind of feels like they are ttying to go with a relaxed eating restaurant but the bright lights and brighter paint take away from the dining experience, in my opinion. Sort of feels like a take-out place or cafeteria, which i know isnt the experience they were hoping for.
Service, they tried. Clearly needs tone to train and develop staff, ehich is expected if a place just opened. Also, considering that this is a small “mom and pop” type restaurant, turnover is expected. However, they had 1 guy working and he was not too familiar with the menu or the procedures. Owner was there also. Nice guy. One of the dishes we ordered was veal parm and it was VERY tough and did not have good flavor. Ny wife couldn’t eat it and asked if she can order the chicken parm instead. The waiter said, let me check and then came out to say that he will switch the meat, but leave the pasta. He then immediately came back and said they will switch the entire plate and took the dish away. I feel the owner could have come up and apologized or at least tried to understand what was wrong with the dish. Outside of the excellent pasta, the Veal was bad and the chicken was not that much better. I just feel there are many options that are better in the area for the protein dishes, but again, excellent pasta.
I would recommend this as a take out restaurant, but probably would not dine here again. Prices are pretty high for the kind of food that came out. Dessert was an OK canoli; not the worst but below average. Coffee, which i had an espresso, wasn’t great either.
I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant. Again, probably a good take out place and a good stop for pasta.
