One of the highlights was how accommodating they were with dietary restrictions. One of my friends has severe celiac disease, and we chose Passerine because of their reputation for being mindful about cross-contamination. Our waitress carefully guided us through the menu and made the experience feel safe and stress-free, which meant a lot.
For three of us, we shared five dishes and one dessert, and everything was excellent. We ordered the Aloo Dumpling, Bedgi, Benne Chutney, Scallion Uttapam with aged Comté, Crispy Cauliflower with ginger and winter radish, and the Hamachi Crudo with tomatillo, avocado, and khakhra. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully balanced, and full of flavor. For dessert, the Pistachio Crémeux with chai and rose was the perfect finish—delicate, unique, and not too sweet.
Overall, Passerine delivered on every level: food, service, atmosphere, and care. I’d absolutely return and highly recommend it, especially for anyone with dietary sensitivities looking for an elevated dining experience.
Katie got us seated and George was our host/waiter – who was pretty difficult to spot throughout our time here.
Now that I am done complaining about the service, lets quickly get to the food which was absolutely fantastic.
What to get? The standout dish of the evening was Jackfruit Ghee Roast ($30) – the most delicious Jackfruit dish I have every had. Creamy, spice balanced, and flavor packed. This with Malabar Parotha was a banger combination.
Market Beets ($20) stood out in small bites, thanks to the delicious walnut chikki, and the smoked mayo sauce with Kolhapuri Chicken Bao was really tasty. Roasted Bombay Corn Ribs ($12) can be skipped, and so can the Biryani Chicken Wings ($16).
Their seasonal cocktail – a Gin & Tonic with cucumber and mint was refreshing. Cocktails overall were enjoyable.
We tried all their desserts which include a pistachio icecream, gulab jamun with coriander, and icecream sandwich. Desserts overall were an absolute letdown and I wouldn’t recommend any of them. If you have an absolute sugar craving, go with icecream sandwich!
If they figure out their service staffing, I see no reason why Passerine can’t be a New York favorite. With a gifted chef who balances flavor so well, the core ingredient of this restaurant is up to the mark!
Ramona at the front desk was warm and welcoming, setting the tone right away. When the staff learned it was our anniversary, they surprised us with a complimentary bubbly toast and a dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening feel even more memorable.
The food was excellent as well. For anyone looking for vegetarian options, the Scallion Uttapam, Kulcha, aloo dumpling , and Jack fruit Ghee roast (comes with 1 Malabar parrotta) were all beautifully prepared and full of flavor.
Passerine combines hospitality, atmosphere, and great food in a way that feels genuinely rare. Highly recommend.
I would come back.
The cocktails were a wonderful addition. All of the servers and staff were extremely knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy to answer any questions or to explain a dish in more detail. I would absolutely recommend the tasting menu. We hope to return again
We had the 7-course tasting menu at Passerine and it was outstanding. Each dish was inventive yet rooted in bold, comforting Indian flavors from the bright tuna with lime and avocado (which was deceptively delicious) to the deeply spiced beef short rib with Bombay corn. The melts-in-your mouth Nihari is nothing like ever had before!
The pacing, cocktails, and service were all on point, and the elegant space made it feel special.
Chef Chetan Shetty deserves huge credit for creating a menu that feels both authentic and memorable. The pistachio nimish with chai ice cream and rose ice was the perfect finale. I highly recommend this place; would certainly visit again!
