I had dinner at Passerine with friends and it was fantastic. The atmosphere has great vibes and is beautifully designed—warm, stylish, and inviting without feeling pretentious. The customer service was equally impressive; our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely helpful.

One of the highlights was how accommodating they were with dietary restrictions. One of my friends has severe celiac disease, and we chose Passerine because of their reputation for being mindful about cross-contamination. Our waitress carefully guided us through the menu and made the experience feel safe and stress-free, which meant a lot.

For three of us, we shared five dishes and one dessert, and everything was excellent. We ordered the Aloo Dumpling, Bedgi, Benne Chutney, Scallion Uttapam with aged Comté, Crispy Cauliflower with ginger and winter radish, and the Hamachi Crudo with tomatillo, avocado, and khakhra. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully balanced, and full of flavor. For dessert, the Pistachio Crémeux with chai and rose was the perfect finish—delicate, unique, and not too sweet.

Overall, Passerine delivered on every level: food, service, atmosphere, and care. I’d absolutely return and highly recommend it, especially for anyone with dietary sensitivities looking for an elevated dining experience.

Another entry into the growing modern Indian food trend. I think Passerine skews a bit more fusion than authentic and the flavors are balanced but not exactly intense. The execution on all the dishes I tried was excellent but some just didn’t taste like Indian food – grilled fish with a tomatillo sauce (tacos?), a korma that tasted mostly like creamed corn, etc. The breads served with the later courses are really good.

Really want to give them a perfect 5, but their service was painfully slow, consistent with what many Yelpers have mentioned on their reviews. Getting reservations was a breeze, and the layout remains the same at this place, what was formerly Priyanka Chopra’s failed venture – Sona.

Katie got us seated and George was our host/waiter – who was pretty difficult to spot throughout our time here.

Now that I am done complaining about the service, lets quickly get to the food which was absolutely fantastic.

What to get? The standout dish of the evening was Jackfruit Ghee Roast ($30) – the most delicious Jackfruit dish I have every had. Creamy, spice balanced, and flavor packed. This with Malabar Parotha was a banger combination.

Market Beets ($20) stood out in small bites, thanks to the delicious walnut chikki, and the smoked mayo sauce with Kolhapuri Chicken Bao was really tasty. Roasted Bombay Corn Ribs ($12) can be skipped, and so can the Biryani Chicken Wings ($16).

Their seasonal cocktail – a Gin & Tonic with cucumber and mint was refreshing. Cocktails overall were enjoyable.

We tried all their desserts which include a pistachio icecream, gulab jamun with coriander, and icecream sandwich. Desserts overall were an absolute letdown and I wouldn’t recommend any of them. If you have an absolute sugar craving, go with icecream sandwich!

If they figure out their service staffing, I see no reason why Passerine can’t be a New York favorite. With a gifted chef who balances flavor so well, the core ingredient of this restaurant is up to the mark!

We had an outstanding experience at Passerine. From the moment we arrived, the team made the night feel special. Gabriel and Henri at the bar were incredible—they asked about our flavor preferences and crafted drinks perfectly tailored to our tastes. Everything they made was thoughtful, balanced, and honestly some of the best cocktails we’ve had.

Ramona at the front desk was warm and welcoming, setting the tone right away. When the staff learned it was our anniversary, they surprised us with a complimentary bubbly toast and a dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening feel even more memorable.

The food was excellent as well. For anyone looking for vegetarian options, the Scallion Uttapam, Kulcha, aloo dumpling , and Jack fruit Ghee roast (comes with 1 Malabar parrotta) were all beautifully prepared and full of flavor.

Passerine combines hospitality, atmosphere, and great food in a way that feels genuinely rare. Highly recommend.

Beautiful dishes with beautiful flavour. The chef has finesse, and no item on the menu is wasted. I loved the jackfruit ghee roast, it was extraordinary, and the nihari is a good choice to explore the flavours of South Asia.

I would come back.

We ordered chef’s tasting menu which is a 7 course meal. Unfortunately it lasted for 3.5 hours which we weren’t expecting, we started at 7:45 PM and ended around 11:15. Food overall was a fusion twist over Indjan classics, some of the items such as Ghee roast Jackfruit was great; can’t say all the dishes were great…definitely on the pricey side. Service was great and ambience and hospital is upscale.. but that X factor was missing for the price we paid.

This restaurant is PERFECT. The food is not only innovative but deliciously made. They have created flavors that are new to the palette while maintaining the Indian taste. Presentation is beautiful..staff is excellent with attention to detail and a kind demeanor. The ambIance is art deco meets lux. Soft music in the background, nothing loud, making you enjoy a conversation over your beautiful meal. We asked to meet the chef to compliment him and he came! This is the best Indian food in NYC.

Incredible experience at Passerine. We chose the tasting menu and it was beautiful, fun and most of all delicious. Half of us ordered the vegetarian tasting menu and half the traditional menu. Having sampled both I have to say the vegetarian slightly edged out the regular!
The cocktails were a wonderful addition. All of the servers and staff were extremely knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy to answer any questions or to explain a dish in more detail. I would absolutely recommend the tasting menu. We hope to return again

If you’re visiting New York and want an unforgettable Indian fine dining experience, Passerine is the place to go.

We had the 7-course tasting menu at Passerine and it was outstanding. Each dish was inventive yet rooted in bold, comforting Indian flavors from the bright tuna with lime and avocado (which was deceptively delicious) to the deeply spiced beef short rib with Bombay corn. The melts-in-your mouth Nihari is nothing like ever had before!

The pacing, cocktails, and service were all on point, and the elegant space made it feel special.

Chef Chetan Shetty deserves huge credit for creating a menu that feels both authentic and memorable. The pistachio nimish with chai ice cream and rose ice was the perfect finale. I highly recommend this place; would certainly visit again!

Went this evening after a long day in Manhattan. Passerine immediately entered my top 10 restaurant experiences in NYC, maybe top 5. My only two regrets: that I had been a little hungrier because there were 3 other dishes that tempted me, and that I had a more disposable income to satisfy that craving. We ordered the grilled oysters (5 delicious, creamy oysters), Shrimp Kolawada (the winner, 6 on a heat scale), Lamb Cheela (chickpea pancakes with tender shredded lamb) and the scallops (coconut curry, creamy with bok choi). Also got the Parotha, which was a nice break from the traditional Naan. George our server was top-notch. Helped us with our orders, attentive but not intrusive, just a nice young man. The dining room was buzzing by the time we left. I can’t wait for my next trip back. Thank you for a great evening.
