A Genuine Taste of Old-School Deli Magic
Stepping into Parsippany Deli is like taking a delightful trip back in time. This is the definition of an old-school, old-fashioned deli, right down to the atmosphere and the incredibly old-fashioned staff. As someone who drove up looking for a quick, post-work lunch and is used to the quick pace of a city like Chicago, I was thrilled—this place absolutely didn’t miss.
The food here is genuinely delicious. I highly recommend the hot pastrami sandwich—it was simply so good!—and the seafood salad sub was excellent, hitting all the right notes for a satisfying lunch.
Now, about that old-school experience: I called my order in and, after driving up and eventually snagging a rare parking spot, I walked in about ten minutes later. When I asked about my pick-up order, the initial response from one of the women was a little huff. After clarifying I had called it in, they then began to prepare the order. It’s that slightly chaotic, “we’ll get to you when we get to you” style, which honestly just adds to the authentic, unhurried, classic charm of the place once you accept the pace.
The only minor note was the potato salad. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it wasn’t my cup of tea; I prefer a different preparation style. But one side dish quirk isn’t enough to detract from the overall fantastic experience.
If you’re in the area and craving a truly authentic, high-quality deli lunch, I would absolutely recommend Parsippany Deli. Go for the hot pastrami sandwich or the seafood salad sub, enjoy the flavor, and embrace the classic deli charm!

I was in the area and decided to stop in for a sub. My bf has been coming here for years and swears by this deli as one of the best around.
This mom and pop deli is not much to look at from the outside. They have free parking out front with several spots they share with another business.
Once inside you can see why they call this place The Parsippany Deli/ Emerald Gifts aka The Irish Deli.
As soon as you walk in the front door, they have a glass counter that displays beautiful China from Ireland. They sell teas, marmalade, sausages, bacon, black and white pudding, Irish candies, also Brennan’s bread.
During the month of March they make and sell homemade Irish Soda Bread.
As you make your way to the front counter you will meet owner Eddie, along with Avril. They were both very friendly and told me about their business. Posted on the counter is their sandwich and salad menus.
The Parsippany deli/Emerald gifts has been in business for 56 years, now I know why. Their prices are reasonable, and everything is homemade. They also do catering.
They roast all their own meats like Roast Beef, Turkey Breast, and Baked Virginia Ham. I highly suggest getting a half of a sub. It’s as big as most whole subs. This place doesn’t skimp on their meats, just the opposite.
When I got home and opened up my sub I was pleasantly surprised, and couldn’t believe how much meat was on it. It was probably one of the best Italian subs I’ve ever had and I’ve been all over for subs.
I ordered their Italian Sub – Ham, Salami, Capocollo they call it Hot Ham, and Cheese. I got mine with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo, oil and vinegar. It was really delicious. I wound up eating a half of a half and saved the rest for later.
My bf ordered their Roast Beef n American Cheese Sub. The Roast Beef was cooked perfectly rare and piled on the sandwich with lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar. He enjoyed it so much he ate the entire thing.
I also ordered 2 of their homemade salads. Macaroni and Potato Salad. The macaroni was my favorite. It was rich and creamy.
I highly recommend this place, you won’t be disappointed

I ordered an egg white sandwich, but when I got home, it didn’t have egg whites. I called and spoke to the owner, and it seemed like he was annoyed that I ordered egg whites. He told me that he doesn’t offer egg whites. I asked why no one mentioned that when I placed the order, and he responded with attitude, acting surprised that I was upset. I would definitely recommend staying away from this place, as the owner clearly doesn’t prioritize customer service.

Food is a 10/10 in my opinion. Had 2 very good experiences here at this spot. Sadly, had a, not so good, experience today with an older lady. Came in at about 2pm to grab a sandwich, they close at 3pm. Lady comes to the counter with an obvious attitude as if I’m inconvenience her day by wanting to order a sub. I asked her for a whole sub and she let out the most obvious sigh of annoyance that I would order a sub 45 mins before they close. To the lady, that’s not how you treat a customer, hope your day gets better. Will not be returning. Great place besides her.

Started going to the deli in 1978. Ed has a great sense of humor, helpful and the sandwiches are large servings at a very fair price. I like the chicken pot pie. He makes his own Irish Soda bread and it is wonderful.

Been going to this deli since I was a kid. Both of my grandparents know the owners and have been a customer for over 50 years.

They have delicious cold cuts and sandwiches. Highly recommend if you’re looking for amazing sandwiches in the Morris County area!
