Immediately we were treated different when we showed up with two children under 5, and it really just left a poor taste in our mouth.
The food was so good, just had to look past people being short with us, and rushing us out offering boxes and our check 12 minutes after the food came out.
The check was on the table and we didn’t even get offered dessert.
Zucchini Blossom Parm was the highlight of the food selections. It was a fantastic vegetarian dish and made the whole trip worth it. I will make this for my wife! I would have enjoyed a plate of these more than my main entree.
The soup that came with the meal was a bit salty, but it was loaded with things from pasta to Italian sausage and we generally liked it.
The chicken Parmesan was better than other chain Italian options, but also a bit pricey at $29. Overall this was a good choice.
The Lemon Chicken Al Forno was quite lemony. I personally think it has twice the lemon it needed, or it could have use more cream to cut the sharpness of the acid. I would not order this again and you should only order if you L-O-V-E lemon. When reheated the next day with a little butter and heavy cream it was greatly improved.
Tiramisu to go was very good.
It was completely eaten and I only was able to get a few bites. A solid choice for dessert.
After our appetizers, we ordered our entrees. They did take a bit longer to arrive, and by the time they came out the restaurant was nearly empty. When our entrees were served, we asked for more bread and were told they were out, which seemed a little odd for an Italian restaurant at around 8 p.m.
The entrees themselves were excellent. However, as we were getting ready to leave, a new table was seated nearby and we noticed a basket of bread being brought to them. We couldn’t help but laugh, as we would have appreciated being told there were no refills rather than being told they were out of bread.
Overall, the food was delicious and we enjoyed our meal. We would definitely return—just won’t ask for more bread next time!
Park & A strikes me as a place which has a good concept generally, not exactly imaginative, but for IF downtown it’s a nice spot.
I found the food generally good, better than you would find at a chain restaurant (which shall remain unnamed) but the price points seem a bit off imo. ($15 for a side salad? C’mon!?)
I am going to be much more critical than I generally am in my reviews, so buckle up sweetpeas! Not because I am trying to be mean, but because I think the restaurant shows promise and could improve.
The bread that comes before your meal is a fairly dense potato bread. It is served with a melted garlic butter. Personally I would swap it for EVOO and have about half as much in the dish. There is so much butter that it’s hard to get to the tasty garlic at the bottom, also the butter will congeal eventually which is ok, but just doesn’t look nice.
The spicy rigatoni is solidly spicy and tasty, and probably my favorite thing on the menu. I found the mac and cheese far too salty, and the addition of the pancetta didn’t seem to add much to the overall flavor except to make it saltier. The butternut squash ravioli could be better with some adjustments. The squash inside the pasta is not seasoned and there was about twice as much sauce as there needed to be. Additionally the green peas and the tomatoes seemed a strange addition to the sauce and felt totally unnecessary and in fact detracted from the overall taste. We did enjoy the Arancini, though I would enjoy them more without the peas. I was disappointed in the burrata which seemed much more like a mozzarella and didn’t burst and ooze like a truly fresh burrata will. Also the toast that it came with it was so tough that my son (who has braces) couldn’t actually eat it. I have gone back and had the Chicken Marsala. It is fine though I would suggest just a bit more sauce would improve it (so you have enough for the pasta and not just the chicken). When I had it recently the vegetables had a LOT of herb seasoning, and I mean a LOT,
to the point I couldn’t taste my vegetables.
Overall I think the food has promise but it needs stripping back and simplifying and the seasoning needs adjusting.
As for dessert, the chocolate amaretto truffle cake with the orange marmalade was divine and I would highly recommend it. Oh and the non-alcoholic Bellini is delicious and you can request it with Prosecco.
The interior has been stripped back and is spare and lets the natural beauty of the tiled floors and exposed brick sing. The European influenced interior is enhanced with the choice of the cane tables and chairs. The paper tops and the fact that your server will write his or her name on the table along with your last name is a nice personal touch as well. Unfortunately you might have to shout to hear your Boo as the restaurant can get quite loud. (I guess this could be a bonus though if you find their company boring and you’re only down for some arm candy.)
So, do I think you should try Park & A? Yes, just go in knowing what to expect and I do hope that my review will encourage them to readjust and reevaluate their dishes.
We loved the vibe of Park & A. Elevated and sophisticated, this spot feels like a little bit of the charm of Italy, while still being casual enough for those who aren’t necessarily looking for a date night. However, even if you’ve been married for some time, this is great place to spend with someone you love.
Such a charming atmosphere.
The food was great as well.
We tried the Lemon Parmesan Sea Scallops with Risotto (which, by the way, perfectly prepared, both the scallops and the risotto). Also had the Rigatoni, which had a nice spice level to the sauce, so good!!!
Highly recommended!!!
Thanks for coming to downtown and looking forward to coming back quite often.
Oh, and also, a great wine selection and knowledgeable staff regarding pairings!
Ordered the morellino red. It was very light. Perfect summer red!
Service was on. Gave us plenty of privacy but were very responsive (I can be pretty annoying).
Highly recommend! Well done.
