The moment I saw the sign on Michigan Avenue, it immediately reminded me of my recent trip to Korea.
Not long ago I visited Seoul and Busan, and Paris Baguette was everywhere. You can find it on so many streets there, and it has become a very familiar bakery brand in Korea.
Of course, the concept of Paris Baguette is a bit different from a traditional artisan bakery.
It feels more like a large, well-organized bakery chain with a production system behind it, rather than a small handcrafted neighborhood bakery.
But that doesn’t take away from the experience at all. In fact, they do a really great job offering a huge variety of breads, pastries, and cakes that are both attractive and delicious.
When you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the incredible selection.
There are so many different types of bread, sweet pastries, sandwiches, and beautifully decorated cakes.
It almost becomes difficult to choose just one thing. Honestly, just looking at all the options made me feel full already! Everything looks colorful, fresh, and very tempting.
The flavors are also very enjoyable.
Even though it’s a chain bakery, many of the items are surprisingly tasty and satisfying.
It’s a great place if you want a quick pastry, a light breakfast, or a small dessert with coffee.
For me personally, visiting this location felt a little nostalgic because it reminded me of my time traveling in Korea.
It’s nice to see this familiar bakery brand expanding internationally and bringing a small taste of that experience to Chicago.
I really hope this location continues to do well and stays here for a long time.
A fun and delicious stop if you’re walking around the South Loop area of Chicago.
When we were done collecting a hedonistic amount of bites we headed over to order a coffee and sit down, all of which was speedy. Since we ordered so many pastries, we’ll give a quick breakdown of each one:
Pumpkin Scone – delicious with a firm bite, pumpkin flavor very welcoming
Pain au Chocolat – a chocolate croissant, buttery and light with some chocolate throughout (could use more chocolate)
Sugar Mochi Donut – simple but delicious, light and chewy. A very good sweet treat
Pastry Frank – a hot dog in croissant-like bread. A worse version of a kolache, the one item we would say to pass on
Grilled Cheese – delicious and well balanced, although the edges of the bread were a bit tough to work around
Hash Brown Bread with Ham & Cheese – by far the best thing we had on their menu. Savory, cheesy, and salty all in one item. We would highly recommend it to anyone
Iced Coffee – not the best, a lot of other chains do it a lot better but if you need the boost get it
Again, Paris Baguette is a chain so with that comes chain expectations, but these were some pretty good pastries, and if the food is good the food is good. If you’re looking for something quick or convenient then this is the spot for you, but if you’re looking for a more local feel in your bakery trips then look elsewhere.
The latte was made to my request, the breakfast sandwhich was well portioned, but could have used a little more seasoning.
Although the prices were higher than expected for certain items, they did seem to have a rewards program.
Overall, it was an okay visit.
