Inside The Tumultuous Final Days of Parable – Columbus …

Early in the morning on August 3, someone used a metal patio chair to smash open the window at Parable coffee shop on High Street.

A really cool coffee shop and cafe in downtown Columbus. Their pastry assortment was out of this world. One of the better croissants I have had in the US. I loved all the plants which gave it a crisp and airy atmosphere. It felt light and bright and there is ample seating! Honestly, the baristas came across a bit cold and pretentious, but the place is still worth a visit. I loved the possible drink concoctions they offered. I had a guava iced latte and it was delicious. I would love to stop here again if I am visiting Columbus.

We came on a Saturday around noon. Ordered and then found a seat while we waited for our drinks and food. We were lucky and snatched the last table. By the time we left around 12:40, there were a few tables open.

Matcha with oat: uniform milk froth. Very creamy. Can taste the matcha. Wasn’t too much or two little matcha. Nice ratio.

Miso caramel latte with oat: just like the Matcha, the milk was uniformly frothed. The miso taste was very subtle so subtle. I wasn’t sure if I was tasting it, but there was a nuttiness to it that I’m not sure if it’s from the espresso beans or from the miso you can taste the caramel. Very nicely done latte.

Egg sandwich: the sandwich was made on a very soft bun. Egg was soft and fluffy with melted cheese and mayo. There is also a little bit of horseradish to give it a nice little zing.

Burrito: fries, eggs, cheese, guacamole, and sauce wrapped in a tortilla. This was good, but nothing really stood out.

Toasted croissant: well toasted, very buttery, airy, and soft.

Location: downtown. Street parking as well as parking lots.

Atmosphere: exposed industrial ceiling painted in black but with cute gold light fixtures. There was plenty of natural light and you’re surrounded but a bunch of different plants. There are many tables and one sofa area.

Conclusion: this is a very nice coffee shop with food and pastries in a great location. If you are already downtown. This place is well suited for a catch up with friends/family or for working with headphones. Depending on how busy it is, it may not be the best for calls. The coffee, drinks, pastry, and food are good.

Great ambience. Looks great for almost every reason visiting a cafe, hang out, studying, relaxing etc. Honestly their menu price does not seem reasonable but understandable for the location and they offer a parking validation. The parking garage location is available on their website. I ordered two pastries, cherry almond and mango goat cheese. Cherry one was too sweet and too plain for me. Mango was better with both tangy and savory flavor. I also like how they rotate seasonal drink menu. I will come back to try new drinks.

Great place right in downtown with a great interior, stylish decoration, delicious coffee with a beautiful latte art and friendly staff. Service was great and the atmosphere was nice! Seemed quite busy for an early morning and the reason is that their coffee is really good! Just a right amount of bitterness and roasted to the right point. Definitely recommend to try it “for here” so you can enjoy gorgeous art on the latte foam .

Parable Coffee in downtown Columbus continues to be my favorite place for coffee in the city. Their drinks are consistently excellent—thoughtfully crafted, flavorful, and often creative. I especially love their seasonal menu items, which offer something unique you can’t find anywhere else.

The space itself is just as impressive. It’s filled with natural light and lush plants, striking a balance between modern and cozy. The bar setup adds a downtown edge, and the location—near the Scioto Mile and central downtown—makes it the perfect stop when you’re out and about for events or just exploring.

This visit was my first time trying their food, and I went with the ham and cheese croissant. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the high bar set by their coffee. It wasn’t bad, but it was underwhelming. The croissant was overdone and so flaky that I ended up covered in crumbs. It also lacked filling—I think I had maybe one piece of ham folded over inside.

Overall, Parable remains my go-to for coffee in Columbus, but next time I’ll probably skip the food and stick to what they do best: amazing drinks and a great atmosphere.

Update July 2025 4> strong 4.5

Easily being promoted to one of my favorite places in cbus.

Attended a bubbly wine class with Rich, super fun. Opened my mind to bubbly, learned a lot and met some cool people.

Most recently stopped in for wine Wednesday. Grabbed a smashburger, tiny tini (the olive) and some wine.

Smashburger- good. The sauce was really tangy/pickley added ketchup to balance it out for my liking. Fries fire!

Cocktail-The olive- not my thing, was trying something new since I’m coming around to olives, but no. Speaking objectively it felt like it was well balanced but I could still taste too much of the olive food my preference.

I’m late writing this and they now have a dinner and new drink menu, so I’m overdue for a visit back :).

Super cute.  Amazing customer service.
Special shoutout to Jeff, Syn? And Marco who took care of us in some capacity.

Drinks-  collins angel hot latte 5/5 and a matcha latte (Collins angel version) 4/5

Food- egg sandwich w/ bacon- soft bread,  thick bacon,  moist. 5/5 and vermonter- turkey apple and cheese pastry. 4/5 flaky,  good filling.  Not the biggest fan of the sesame seeds.

Overall clean,  cute,  great music/ vibes. A bit pricey, paid $23 for a pastry and drink. But I look forward to returning and exploring the wine/ bar and live music & after work ambiance.

I’ve been here for cocktails a few times and always loved it. I came today for happy hour specials. 1/2 off cocktails. $10 burger and fries. Amazing. (HH is Wed-Sun from 3-6). The olive burger was excellent. For reference, my favorite burger in town has been at Columbus Brewing Company ($8 on Tuesdays without fries). The parable burger knocked it out of the #1 spot. For $10, I was expecting a very small burger. It was basically full sized. The olive tapenade was fantastic. The fries were so good. The cocktails, as always, were perfect. The service, as always, was great. Also, there’s no tipping, so the menu price is the price you pay.

Posted up at Parable Coffee to work on some personal projects on a Saturday for a few hours. First got a loose leaf black tea, and then later a sour beer they had on draft. Both were competitively priced. Loved the staff, and the ambiance is everything! Giving off the big city vibes I’ve been missing from my last city. I will say it was a surprise they had automatic gratuity, and it was a bit loud because it was busy. I just threw in airpods, and all was well. Next time I’ll try a bite to eat. Would recommend simply to check out the interior design and music selection.

EDIT: Unfortunately they no longer offer pastries. I’d love to try some of their breakfast offerings!

Beautiful space with fantastic high-quality drinks and INSANE pastries. Their pastry chef is beyond talented, and they offer such beautiful and creative creations (drinks and pastries alike) that can be appreciated by their art form alone — but somehow they’re also just as tasty as they are beautiful. How is that possible? (Follow them on Instagram to keep up with all the new pastry offerings — they offer a new croissant flavor to try almost every weekend.)

All served in a stunning, chill space to boot. There’s a reason why there’s often a line out the door on any random weekday. It’s a must visit.

The Parable Cafe was a must-visit spot for me, especially since I do fasting on Fridays, and it was just a short walk from where I was staying. After checking into my hotel, I took a walk with my laptop and enjoyed an amazing cup of coffee at this cafe.

What I noticed right away were the local residents sitting and working, which, to me, is always a good sign. Another great thing about this place is that they also serve cocktails and wine, and they stay open late. I would definitely recommend this spot. It has a minimalist style, simple decor, and plenty of open space. But most importantly, they serve an amazing cup of coffee.

Cheers,

BN
