Warm, laid-back restaurant dishing out traditional fish n’ chips plus seafood plates & burgers.

If these are homemade fish cakes, they shouldn’t bother! Exactly like the pre made ones you get. Another local fish and chip place does homemade fish cakes that are lovely big round balls filled with chunks of fish and herbs. Not here. This is the 2nd time in a row it’s been sub par, the last time I asked for a little bit more salt and the server just stood there pouring salt on, I had to ask him to stop. I managed about 5 chips when I got home before my mouth began to hurt and I got heartburn! Ruined meal. This time was similar but with vinegar, he stood talking to a colleague whilst pouring and again had to ask him to stop!
The real icing on the cake was when we asked for some napkins and was told they didn’t have any but we could take some blue roll..I’ve grown up telling friends papa’s is the best and today’s experience would’ve made me embarrassed

Popped in here for a bite to eat after seeing some positive hype on social media. Firstly it’s located a bit out of the way, good old google maps helped out. Secondly the food itself is nice big portions I went for the moby dick (giant cod and chips) and for the price I’d expected a little more maybe a drink included especially when your paying £18.95! My Mrs went hake special which was similar priced and got a cup of tea,a butter roll and a portion of mushy peas again a very good portion. The only downside to it all though is the chips were pretty greasy and not the best chippy chips and the batter on the fish isn’t the best could do with being a little thicker and crisper (but that’s personal preference)
Lastly the lady that greeted and served us was little bit on the rude pushy side, we came in with our Newphew and his buggy and was like does he need a high chair and you’ve gotta leave the pushchair at the door, which again is fair enough due to space inside the restaurant but could have of done it a nicer manner
Would happily go again but not anytime soon unfortunately

We have eaten at Papas many times over the years when visiting WSM. We visited today for lunch and chose the Hake Special which included a bread roll and a cup of tea, and was very good value for money. The Hake was a generous size and the chips crispy and dry. However, I was shocked to discover the state of the ladies toilet. The loo had not been flushed sufficiently by the previous occupant and when I attempted to flush I could see that the flush handle was loose and falling away from the cistern. I attempted to flush several times to no avail. On returning to my seat I politely mentioned to the waitress that the flush in the ladies was not working, but she could not have cared less. Her rather rude attitude was, “well you just have to keep pressing it”. This is not good enough in a restaurant where toilet facilities should be of a satisfactory standard for hygiene reasons, with toilets in working order. When we asked for a pot of hot water to top up our teacups, we were frowned on and had to repeat ourselves. This left us feeling that although the meal was satisfactory and we enjoyed it, the service fell below the usual polite manner we are used to at Papas. Note to management: please fix your ladies toilet flush.

A lovely lunch. Quick welcoming service and food was served quickly and was hot and tasty. I had the hake that was on special and I would happily order again.

Amazing food. Great to see a chippy using locally sourced fish. Staff were very busy so took a while to get seated but service was great! Extra points for the best brewed cup of tea I’ve ever drunk.

Not the first visit, ate here a few times before always busy good size portions. Not this time staff just talking to other customers and showed little interest in our tables order. Cod and chips, spring rolls salad and chips, two chips, roll, beans and a peas, two teas two waters £60. If it was good fair enough the portions were small, the spring rolls not cooked in the centre and poor quality. Salad looked tired. Really disappointed. Hope it will return to its glory days had some happy holiday meals with my family there.

The meals are quite pricey (and as a visitor to UK I was surprised about the huge difference in prices between the take-away and food consumed inside the restaurant), especially the fish and chips, that you can get for 9 pounds (instead of 17 in here) elsewhere.
I waited 30 minutes just for the table, which was quite long.
The restaurant itself is quite cozy and has its charm, eventhough it’s furnished very simply and the tables are squished very near.
I got the hamburger with chips and salad (12,55£) and the food was really tasty and a solid portion.
I would probably choose some other place, knowing the amount of waiting and the prices in advance, but I enjoyed the meal in the end.

Was stood waitong ro be seated for over 5 minutes, ignored by staff, the waitress said when not even looking at us, go sit yhere with hand signal.
Staff were very rude, not friendly at all. When asked to see smaller/childs menu due to having medical condition and only having 1/3 of a stomach, was told rudely this is only for under 12’s. 2 waitresses were rude and clearly not happy in their work.
Food was standard, nothing special.
Atmosphere was dead.

Came here at 7pm on a Friday night and it was empty. What ever happened to Fish Fridays? Above all the plaques, newspaper cuttings and famous signatures, I found myself most surprised by the prices that could compete with London.
The batter of the fish is thin, golden and crispy; the best type. I ordered a regular and I didn’t find myself getting tired of the chips, which never happens. Tasty.
The salad went very well with the beige event, especially the red onion. Nice, fresh and £7. Now we are surpassing London prices.
All-in-all a charming spot, but a star dropped when factoring in the hefty price for fish and chips (£20+ pp).
