Being located inside a shopping mall, I honestly did not go in expecting the food to be anything special. Typically, mall food tends to fall somewhere in the middle—either just okay or forgettable. However, this restaurant completely exceeded my expectations.
The food was served very hot, very fresh, and incredibly delicious. The portion sizes were also generous, which made the value even better. Everything tasted well prepared and satisfying, especially for a mall setting.
The service was solid overall. The associate helping us was friendly and attentive, though he didn’t seem to know the full menu and had to turn around and reference it a few times. That said, it didn’t negatively impact the experience in any major way.
One of my friends in our group had an issue with his order, and I was genuinely impressed with how it was handled. They immediately corrected the mistake by making him an entirely new meal and even allowed him to keep the original one as well. That level of customer service is not something you see often, especially in a mall food environment.
Would I recommend this place? Absolutely—without hesitation. I would recommend it over many other dining options in the mall. If you already plan on visiting the mall, this spot is definitely worth your time.
I was also told that they have a brick-and-mortar location outside of the mall. If you’re not a fan of mall dining, I would highly suggest seeking out their standalone location instead. Based on this experience, it’s likely just as good—if not better.
Overall, the restaurant space was very clean, well organized, and clearly well maintained. Do not hesitate to try this place as soon as possible—it easily outperforms many of the surrounding options and is far better than what you might expect from a typical mall restaurant.Honestly, this particular place exceeded my expectations even more because the meal also came with free tortilla chips on the side, which was a nice and unexpected bonus.

We LOVE that we have local restaurants at the Asheville Mall Food Court!! This is our second time coming and the owners couldn’t be more friendly – they even remembered what we ordered last time like a month ago!
This time we got the Barria Tacos. The serving size is as big as the flavor! Super authentic and delicious. Must try this gem of a restaurant.

Delicious and flavorful birria tacos with rice and beans. The salsas were spot on as well. I’ve struggled to find a go to Tex Mex spot in Asheville. Papas has very reasonable prices and delicious food. Their customer service is excellent as well. I will definitely be back!

Incredibly delicious food, the family ownership was so amazing and welcoming! Overall a wonderful gym in the mall! Definitely make a stop! Everything was so fresh and the amount of food to the price was great. I’ll definitely be going back!

For years, I couldn’t understand why so many people would list Mexican food as one of their favorite types. I thought it was GREATLY overhyped, in feeling like all the Mexican food I’d ever have always just seemed so-so. Decent, surely not spectacular. I remember the first time my mind began to change about that. It was this Mexican restaurant in NYC, where the food turned out AMAZING. And I literally told my friend at the time, if ALL or even most Mexican food tasted like this, it would be one of my favorites, too!!!
There have been literally one or two other spots like that since.
Papas Express is one of those spots.
Just finished receiving and starting in my second time ordering from them. Last time, I had their taco salad and apparently very popular California avocado tacos. This time, their kobe burrito, steak torta with fries, and the avocado tacos again. Both times, their churros.
And literally everything has been MAN.
I’m really trying to pace myself, but I cannot WAIT to try more of their menu.. and double back on several items as well.

So fresh and delicious! We enjoyed the tasty birria tacos and they did not disappoint! Really loved the rice as well. Variety of uniques sauces. Terrific friendly customer service! Will be back again soon and highly recommend!

I recently hired Papa’s Express to cater my wedding, and they were an absolute dream to work with! They arrived right on time, stayed attentive to the food throughout the entire event, and made sure everything was cleaned up afterward. They were always quick to respond to my questions and incredibly polite and professional. I highly, highly recommend them to anyone planning a wedding or event. Their prices were also very budget-friendly which is so rare to find in catering these days! I’ll definitely be using them again for future events.
