After spending the early fall morning cruising the Natchez Trace Parkway south of Nashville, we navigated the winding two-lanes along and across the Duck River into the little town of Centerville. It was one of those moments that feel like you are in a movie when we pulled into the gravel parking lot under a cloudless sky. We were greeted by the official scent of autumn-sweet hardwood smoke-as we walked towards the unassuming wood-sided smokehouse.

Papa Kay Joe’s was delicious. I got the pork plate, and I got okra and corn on the side. The southern grilled cheese was also good with the curly fries. The free peanuts were awesome. I wasn’t a fan of the fried pickles, so I wouldn’t get them again. The staff was really nice as well.

We visit regularly for the most magical sandwich ever created…brisket grilled cheese! Ordered with an appetizer of fried pickles and a side of Mac & cheese it is the ultimate comfort meal. Food is always delicious and fried perfectly. The staff is warm and friendly. Truly a local gem.

We stopped here after being re-routed off of I-40, and we’re sure happy for that traffic jam for helping us discover this place. The pulled brisket was certainly memorable with a crispy fried taste reminding me of burnt ends. Highly recommend!

The food was good. Employees friendly. The lil place was nice and clean. We had the bbq sandwich,slaw, nac n cheese, and turnip greens, and banana pudding. Everything was good. The sweet sauce has alot of molasses but they do also have mild or hot that ate more of a tomato based sauce.

I had the grilled cheese and pork. Hubby had the pork plate which came with a pile of pork and 2 sides (he chose slaw and beans). Everything was delicious=A+ . Service with a smile A+. Very nice homey atmosphere. For really good bbq, highly recommend.
