Excellent authentic breakfast tacos! They were so fresh and hot, I had to wait to eat them so I didn’t burn my mouth. This is a tiny place, very basic decor, but most places with the best food aren’t focusing on fancy decorating. Highly recommend.

I’ve been coming here for years and years and years because my grandma lives down the street. The guys in there are really sweet and the food is really good. I always get the mega’s breakfast taco on flour. It is so delicious. It is so darn good. My sister loves Mondo. The beef tacos crispy are delicious.

I should have know! No wonder Papa Joe’s breakfast tacos were so good. They carry that 02 EASTSIDE PRIDE! I was ordering blindly thru door dash until I looked it up and automatically recognized the iconic building! 100/10! Totally recommend! Seriously the taste always makes me think of where I grew up, on Govalle.

Tried the eggs ranchero—wasn’t really to my liking. Could’ve used more salsa, the potatoes were a bit cold, and the beans were just okay. Didn’t care for the store-bought tortillas. On the bright side, the coffee was solid, and the service was warm and friendly.

You step in and you know where you are; grandmas kitchen with a little bit of seating. With only 2 family seating tables, and 5/6 couple’s tables, the set up is designed mostly for take out. However, given it’s excellent location to gyms, S. Walnut Creek trail, and Ray G. Park, you’ll probably want to take your food with you regardless.
That said, it’s hard to knock this place for anything. The staff is the definition of Austin hospitality and will cater to you (even if you’re white and have dietary restrictions like myself ). ⬅️ if you don’t understand this joke…I’m sorry…you can’t be helped.
The food quality is on par with the price, and you will enjoy what you get no doubt. If you’re familiar with authentic Mexican food items you will feel at home. And if you only know Tex-Mex, don’t worry, it’s in the name.

Great Mexican vibes + authentic food! What else do you need from a Tex-Amex restaurant? They prepared my food so fast; and it tasted great. Parking is a limited. Make sure they check their hours, as they’re not open all day.

It took me a decade of living in Austin to try this place. I always thought it was a front. Before the East Side became every condo developers’ wet dream, Papa Joe’s was merely a small Mexican joint, oddly placed in the city with even odder adjacent buildings.
Maybe it is a front but the food is delicious and not insanely over priced like every other god damn new hype taco truck. Come here. Pay your patronage to this unassuming papa Joe before it’s too late.

Picked up a migas taco to go around 10 am on a Saturday; food was ready in minutes and service was very friendly. Taco was great – good tortilla and salsa, crunchy tortilla chips, lots of flavor. Nice atmosphere inside.

Nice small Mexican place with friendly staff! It has standard breakfast tacos, more breakfast options, and daily lunch specials, but the quality is average. The place itself has an odor, so it wasn’t a very pleasant dine in experience. Would come back for some take out breakfast tacos next time maybe.
