Hey ya’ll, this one was ify for me. In my hunt to find my favorite pizza here, I have been hearing a lot about Papa Gio’s. We decided to go and check it out. It is only 20 mins away they have a dine in option which is what we were wanting. When we got there we were the only ones there aside from the employees, so it is not a very crazy busy place. Anywho, the serve was very polite and we were seated promptly. Everyone in their seemed to be happy, they had bright smiles, super nice attitudes, and looked like they enjoyed being there. Upon receiving the menu I noticed they have a good variety of things to choose from. I would say, the typical pizza joint.

I personally am not a fan of seeing the whole open kitchen and watching the prep (although the pizza tossing is kinda cool, and takes me back to when I was a kid). Very few pizza places wear gloves and it kinda eeks me out (I understand why, and that they wash their hands, but…). The food did take a while to come out ‍♀️. When it came to the table the overwhelming aroma of garlic pierced my sinus cavity (I love garlic, my partner not so much). The pizza was a great size, and was prepared exactly how we wanted it. The only issue with the pizza was, it was so greasy the entire center portion of the pizza was soggy and the crust was disintegrating & falling off. We were not fans of the marinara sauce (it was a tad sweet and watery). We each only ate one slice and one garlic knot. Given the soggy bread, and the extreme garlic we could not eat more than that. So we packaged it up and took it home.

The reheat was spot on! The next day we reheated the pizza, scrapped some of the garlic off the knots and reheated those. It was good reheated pizza.

All that said, I would recommend this place, but not to everybody. I feel like with pizza, everyone likes theirs a certain way and look for certain flavors. This is going to become someones favorite place and is going to be so close to perfect for them, and there will be others that are not a fan of the flavors and textures. I do like the establishment and hope that it does well, however I won’t be returning.

This place is pretty solid overall. Their pizza is super flavorful with all the spices, meats, cheese, and sauce. The lunch special gives you 2 huge slices and a drink. I threw in a house salad for a nearly perfect combo. I’m definitely coming back.

This place is so authentic! Great pizza, slices are big like New York / Jersey style. The crust is thin, so tasty. They have a big selection and they deliver! Great customer service, great price. Can’t ask for more. This is the place for pizza, don’t hesitate.

Owners and staff are so friendly and lighthearted. Amazing Italian food and prices are equally as awesome. Plenty of parking and fast service. You’re able to watch them make the dough from scratch while you wait.

Papa Gio’s Pizzeria of Irmo

Absolutely hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the Columbia area.

From the moment we walked in, everything was just right the atmosphere, the energy, and especially the people. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they truly care about their customers and take pride in what they do.

The food deserves its own applause . The pizza is outstanding fresh, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and made with quality ingredients. Every bite was delicious. Drinks were great as well, and everything came out exactly as ordered.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the owner. So humble, kind, and clearly passionate about the restaurant. Going above and beyond isn’t an exception here it’s the standard. That level of care and heart is rare and makes the entire experience unforgettable.

Overall, the food, the service, the people, and the atmosphere were all absolutely amazing. This is without a doubt one of the best spots in Columbia, South Carolina.
We will 100% be back, and we’ll be recommending Papa Gio’s to everyone we know.

If you’re thinking about going don’t hesitate. Just go. ❤️

If you are ever in the area, please eat here! I’m a die hard pizza fanatic. I’m a traveler who has had over 500 different pizza spots. This is my #1 go to. I will drive an hour and a half out of the way to make sure I get the change to make a pit stop here. Great comparable prices! Their Calzones are FANTASTIC. The perfect topping/cheese ratio. The best sauce in the history of all Mom and POPs. You want great NY food in SC, eat here. The pizza is amazing too! And I love their pasta. But the calzones just hit the spot.

Great family atmosphere. The workers are always pleasant and seem to enjoy being there. They are always consistent. I’ve had them 15 times on my 2 years of travels and I will say they never miss! I would upload photos but I already devoured my food… until next time Papa Gio’s. Thank you for your amazing food and service.

I am blown away by how good this pepperoni pizza is. I will absolutely be eating here again and it’s probably the only Pizza Spot I will be eating at in the future. I’ve lived in this area for a while and most places are good but Papa Gio’s is worth every penny.

If you haven’t tried it yet. Please do. If you don’t like this place..you probably don’t like pizza.

This pizza hits every time. I’ve only ever DoorDashed from here though so no rating for service/atmosphere. I’m from NY (Long Island) and frequently visited Brooklyn and this pizza is the closest I’ve found to NY pizza since being in SC. I love it. The only thing I don’t love, is the DD delivery fee (they aren’t DashPass eligible) .

We pass this place weekly and every time say we are going g to stop. Today we did and we’re not disappointed. We asked for our sausage and mushroom NY crust well done and it came out perfectly crispy! The sausage was shaved, sauce perfect and cheese fresh. We got mild wings to start and they were very mild, but nice and crispy. They have Woodbridge wines and a small selection of beers, we had Peroni.
The reviews are mixed, but seems like most people who go less that 3 stars it’s because of the a third party delivery. Only complaint would be the bathrooms need a deep clean, I’d rather smell bleach than mold.
Everyone is super friendly and definitely worth a try!
