Dining at Paon is much more than a meal, it’s an authentic Parisian escape. From the moment we were seated on the twinkle-lit patio, the atmosphere was simply transportive, feeling just like a beautiful night out in France.
The food is executed with perfection and incredible authenticity. We started with the warm walnut goat cheese crostini, which was a delicious interplay of savory and sweet, especially with the honey and thinly sliced apples. For the main course, the pheasant and rice was delicious and perfectly portioned. The surprise star of the evening, however, was the beet salad, turned out to be my favorite of the evening.
The attention to service elevated the entire experience. Our waiter was fantastic, ensuring we had plenty of time between courses to savor the dishes, enjoy great conversation, and simply take our time in the gorgeous setting. Paon truly makes you feel like you are back in Paris. A five-star evening all around.

Me and my family visited this place after a day in the LEGOLAND on a Saturday.
It was not crowded at all.
The services are very polite and attentive.
We ordered 2 scallops for appetizers, a soup, and deer steak. My daughter loved the scallop a lot.
Mint ice cream with chocolate source for dessert. It was not too sweet. We liked it.

Had a wedding rehearsal dinner for 14 in the private room. The food and the service were outstanding. Every dish was prepared perfectly and the entrees came out fresh and hot. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant.

French cuisine at its best! Rated #1 restaurant in Carlsbad for a reason! The food was amazing! The service great and attentive. Great wine selection. The rack of lamb was ordered medium rare and it came out right! The filet was cool perfectly too. This place is a great place for a romantic dinner or for a birthday. People go there in shorts but it’s really a nice place and like us, should have people come dressed up. It keeps this place classy and sets the mood for the dinner. Have fun!

Paon in Carlsbad left us underwhelmed. Servers were overly insistent on pushing pricey bottles, which felt off-putting. Bread and butter were delicious, but only one slice was offered — surprisingly stingy for fine dining.
The wine we chose was good, but steeply priced. Food was uneven: some dishes were solid, others forgettable. I was also disappointed to find oysters only on the bar menu and not available in the main dining room.
Service was attentive and polished, but overly formal. Overall, the experience just didn’t justify the high price point.

I’m so surprised by our experience since this restaurant has great reviews. It took more than 1 hour to get entries despite being the first people there. The starters came fast and the waiter was generally attentive, but then we waited 45+ minutes with no check ins from anyone. When the main plates came the food was some of the worst we’ve ever had. Despite a $230 bill we both left without eating most of the plates. We ordered the duck and the pheasant I have never had more bland or more dry meat in my life, duck is a very fatty meat for it to be that dry is amazing. The risotto was more like a mushy fried rice. Everything was soooo dry as if it had been precooked and left under a heat lamp which would explain the hot plate. For the same price you could go to a Michelin star restaurant down the street but we wanted to try something new. Will not be going back.

We had a great experience at Paon and will definitely come back. The service exceeded our expectations. Our server Eugene was very attentive but not intrusive. Eugene was friendly and highly professional and accommodating. The owner Steve was very personable and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. He came by our table, engaged with us, and gave us good recommendations!
The food was amazing, very well seasoned and prepared to perfection. They also have a large wine selection and cocktails. Attached to the restaurant is a quaint wine bar/shop with live music on the weekends, large wine selection, and a cozy atmosphere! I highly recommend Paon and give Eugene a 5-star rating!

We went for a belated Mother’s Day lunch and were super happy with everything! Great wine menu, the food was delicious, the ambience is beautiful, and our server was funny and helpful. We sat outside which was great for a kiddo. Would definitely go back. Would like to check out their wine tasting room as well.

My duck confit was delicious, well balanced of taste and texture. The hanger steak was very good as well, well seasoned and cooked perfect. Service was great. Prices are pretty high … cant afford more frequent dining here for sure…
