Our Story – Panthertown Cafe
The Panthertown Cafe opened in 2020 bringing back Lake Toxaway’s popular breakfast and lunch cafe after it had closed as The Grill at the Barn.

Our breakfast was excellent! I had a loaded 3-egg omelet and it was SO good. My husband ordered a wrap (basically a big burrito) with a side of sausage gravy, and our 7-year-old said the cinnamon French toast was the best he’s ever had… loved that the syrup came in a tiny mason jar! Cheesy potato casserole was also very tasty.
The cafe has such a classic, local charm, an older mountain building with maps, hiking info, and Panthertown memorabilia on the walls. It definitely feels like the spot for locals.
We drive up from Georgia about once a month and will definitely be back. My husband has been coming randomly for years but this was the first time we came with our four kiddos and felt really welcomed. Highly recommend if you want a hearty breakfast and a true mountain-town experience.

Panthertown Cafe is a hidden gem with amazing customer service and truly delicious food! The staff went above and beyond for our family—our son mentioned he wanted pancakes (even though they weren’t on the menu), and they made them just for him. They came out light, fluffy, and absolutely perfect! The whole place was very clean, welcoming, and had a cozy vibe. Prices were super reasonable for the quality and service. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area! Highly recommend.

I’ve been passing this place for years. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to stop for breakfast this time! It was surprisingly very good. They even have avocado toast!
I ended up doing the regular breakfast with two eggs, bacon, toast, and hash brown casserole. The eggs were quite tasty with a generous amount of pepper. I really liked the bacon, it had a good smokey flavor. The hashbrown casserole was delicious, hot and cheesy.
We shared a fruit bowl that was quite large and super fresh tasting.
Service was great. Everyone was very friendly. And the coffee was spot on!
I will definitely be back!

I finally made it lol…This cute little restaurant is in the Toxaway area off of Rosman Highway (64).
I had called ahead as we were going to be a large party. They don’t do reservations, but they still made sure we had a table. The young lady that I spoke to on the phone prior to our visit and the same lady who sat us was so polite and easy to talk to.
They quickly asked for our beverages and not too long after we ordered.
The breakfast was so good. It came out warm and quickly after we ordered.
When we first arrived it wasn’t too busy, but when we left it sure had picked up.
They have outdoor seating(too cold today) and ample parking.
The restaurant and the bathrooms were also very clean.
We came down from Cashiers (+/- 20 min) drive. Well worth it for this tasty breakfast.

Went to the mountains and stopped for lunch. Food was very good, had fried chicken and a reuben. We both enjoyed the meal. Service was excellent, young lady had the entire place and handled it well. Had a little help from the owner. Really good experience.

Visiting from Florida, but most my family NC born and raised. We had breakfast here this morning and everything was really good! Considering it was Sunday and the only local breakfast shop around open within 40-50 minute drive, service was good even with the wait. Delicious cheesy hash browns and cinnamon French toast. Friendly staff. We’ll be back again when in the neighborhood.
