I stopped here for lunch the other day because I wanted to feel like I make responsible adult decisions. You know, “I’ll have a sandwich and a coffee.” Real productive member of society stuff.

Walk in and it’s immediately clear: the human experience is over. There’s one employee at the counter who looks like they drew the short straw, and everyone else is hunched over those self-order kiosks like we’re filing our taxes. I’m just trying to get a turkey sandwich, not enlist in the Navy.

The kitchen sounded like a high school cafeteria during a food fight. Just yelling, clanging, chaos. I half expected Gordon Ramsay to parachute in. But somehow, credit where it’s due, my food came out fast and it was actually right. So respect there.

The place itself? Rough. Messy, dated, weird lighting. It’s got that early-2000s “this used to be nice” energy. Like it peaked during the Bush administration and never recovered. I’ve been to other Paneras that feel kinda cozy and modern. This one feels like it still has a MySpace.

I’d go back if I was desperate and needed something quick. But management might wanna look around and ask, “Hey… are we okay?” Because right now it’s giving strong “airport food court that lost hope” vibes.

Unfortunately, my experience at this Panera Bread was disappointing. The customer service was not welcoming at all. When I asked about the menu, the staff seemed uninterested and unhelpful, as if my questions were a bother. I ordered a sandwich and a cup of soup to go, but when I received my order, the soup was missing from the bag. Thankfully, I decided to check before leaving and realized they hadn’t packed it at all. This kind of carelessness and lack of attention to customers doesn’t make me want to return. The food might be decent, but the service really needs improvement.

It’s very dirty inside, there’s trash underfoot, the tables aren’t wiped down. This is the dirtiest Panera I’ve ever been to.

Liked the food, not so much the service. As you can see in the picture, we got carryout and there were supposed to be 2 forks. They included one. For a picnic lunch, not too helpful.

I ordered a bread bowl and Mac and cheese and the bread wasn’t even cut to put in the Mac and cheese. Also my Apple was green. Why is my apple green? Also forgot my drink and brownie bro that’s crazy. Thanks… FOR NOTHINGGGG

I got a sandwich and it was covered all over in copious amounts of ground black pepper. Both slices of sourdough bread? Coated in pepper. Fixings? Coated in pepper. It was enough black pepper to cause discomfort with every bite. The sandwich was literally bleeding black pepper. I did not order pepper. The sandwich does not come with pepper.

It was almost hilarious if not for the fact I spent real money on the completely inedible, peppery sandwich. To be clear: I have never had this problem with any eatery, restaurant, or cafe before. I guess someone either got fed up with their job or got bored and started experimenting in the kitchen or maybe they were just plain confused. I didn’t ask for salt or pepper. So why all the pepper? It was a decent sandwich, apart from the copious amounts of black pepper, which I had to scrape off. It was impossible to get it off the soft sourdough, so I had to deconstruct the sandwich and just use my stale baguette as bread. I was hungry, so I ate it, but the taste of pepper was still burning my throat.

Anyway. A note to whoever made the pepper sandwich; I give you five stars, because it had the potential to be a great sandwich. I know you work hard. But please do not grind black pepper until the sandwich is utterly covered in pepper, especially when the customer didn’t ask for pepper. Pepper is very strong. And too much of it makes any sandwich inedible. I am not mad at you, as I’d never been to this particular Panera before, I am just extremely confused. Thank you for making my sandwich, I might return again, but I mean… the amount of pepper that was on the sandwich could have caused someone a lot of discomfort.

I left this honest review and report of the incident because regardless if this was just plain confusion, a genuine attempt to make a good sandwich, or an attempt at hurting someone or the Panera itself by making a bad sandwich covered in extreme amounts of pepper (I hope not), maybe this Panera should take this as a learning opportunity and also as an opportunity to treat their employees better. In this economy, employees deserve to be treated better anyway. So regardless what happened that led up to this inedible pepper covered sandwich being served, you never know which customer will get a pepper covered sandwich and immediately assume the worst, or the best in an employee or your business. If management should care to make improvements, I’d just start with reminding everyone that pepper is strong, that copious amounts of pepper make sandwiches straight up inedible, and less is more. That’s not forgetting that I didn’t ask for pepper in the first place and I paid for a sandwich that was supposed to be edible. Treat your employees better! Maybe this was a simple mistake. But just let it be known that being kind and constructive with criticism has ripple effects and it has the potential to make everyone happy. I was still content with the insanely peppery sandwich in the end (my stomach still hurts), but I tend to be forgiving and maybe someone else wouldn’t have been.

Can’t go wrong with Panera. They did run out of bread bowls, but I imagine that happens sometimes. I miss the warm grain bowls they took off the menu!

Food is incredibly tasty, but has gotten smaller over the years as prices have gone up. It’s an occasional splurge, nice way to treat myself. I am rather addicted to the mac and cheese, and the French onion is great.

I do love the Mediterranean chicken with grains salad. It’s very tasty and quite filling. It’s my new go to when I come by.

Why is this place even in business? Never order catering from here. The service is awful, and the delivery woman should be fired. We ordered four catering pastry boxes, and after calling them twice to fix their mistake, this is what they gave us. The woman who redelivered it literally threw the food on the ground. No apology, nothing.

I ordered a Chicken & Pepperoni Mozzarella Melt – Stacked Toasted Baguette. It was a total disappointment. Instead of stacked it was flat with little of anything on it. The worst sandwich I’ve ever had there. Does mine on the left look anything like the one on the right from their menu?
