Delicious Neapolitan pizza from a stand at the Santa Clara Farmers’ Market? Davvero? Yes! The margherita pizza was excellent and incredible value for $16 (most restaurants would charge $20-24 for the same). It was a perfect size for a filling lunch for one, about 10″ diameter. It had more cheese than is typical, I think, but I like it that way. The crust was good, and the tomato sauce sang with fresh, fruity San Marzano flavor. I would like a bit more basil, but it’s hard to nitpick when it’s executed so well overall.
The sign says to expect a 10-15 min wait, so I came back 9 mins after ordering and both my pizza and the one after me were done. I would recommend not going too far, and coming back early, because you really want to eat Neapolitan pizza immediately – as soon as it’s cool enough not to burn your mouth. The texture of the delicate thin crust with sauce on top will deteriorate quickly. Luckily, there are plenty of benches around Franklin Square to sit and enjoy your fresh pizza, along with many others on a lively Saturday morning.
