My Egg Foo Yung nonetheless hit the spot. Was it authentic? Kinda sorta. But it did satisfy my 4 year craving and the staff was considerate of my disability + informative regarding the absolute Egg Foo MUST HAVE gravy which has chicken stock and is def not vegetarian. So overall, a solid 4.2. And if they toss in a fortune cookie next time a 4.3. To achieve a 5, they must make gravy+ all vegetarian dishes with vegetable broth because otherwise some folks – especially peeps with Alpha Gal allergies – could have a serious allergic reaction.
(I’m not Alpha Gal but def allergic to many foods and I was fortunately gifted a meal to this place — NOT a paid review. Just somebody who’s watched me vaporize due to various health issues)
My order was ready in less than 10 minutes. When I went in for pickup, I saw them cooking and putting the food from the wok into togo boxes so it is freshly prepared.
Generous portions, my order will easily be 2 meals. It is very delicious! The side of sauce/gravy for egg foo young is very savory and slightly sweet, I did not need to add any soy sauce to my meal.
I will be back to try more dishes.
I have always said that there is a place in life for “good bad Chinese food”. In this usage, “good bad Chinese food” refers to a type of Chinese food that is not 5-star restaurant level fanciness, or necessarily the most authentic to traditional cuisine, but packs a great taste and great value.
Unfortunately, my visit to Panda yielded what I can only refer to as “bad bad chinese food”. Not only is the restaurant not remotely fancy, but the food is quite tasteless, and ultimately presents a bad value. Having lived in the Bay Area, and being new to Kentucky, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for its Asian food, but all of the Yelp reviews of Chinese restaurants that offered takeout in the area left me thinking that Panda was the best option. After experiencing Panda firsthand, I really really hope that there are better options in Bowling Green that I just happened to miss.
The Chicken Fried Rice is 110% the most bland Chicken Fried Rice I’ve ever had in my life. If I was at home, I would have definitely taken what I recieved from this restaurant, and re-fried it, with some seasonings that actually add flavor. I am almost to the point where I’d say that I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t actually frying the rice, but just taking some steamed rice, adding chicken and food coloring, mixing it, and sending it out in nice little takeout boxes.
If you are absolutely in a pinch and for some reason can’t find other Chinese food, give Panda a shot, but I honestly cannot recommend this restaurant in any other situation.
Our group ordered a total of 8 different menu items. Everything was accurate and actually exceeded expectations. In particular, their egg rolls and lo mein are the best I can recall in recent memory. 2 people in our group hadn’t had Panda before but both said they would definitely order it again.
Their customer service was really good too. The guy who took our order over the phone assisted us with navigating the price differences between the lunch and dinner menus, which was helpful since we were on the road. Our food was ready fairly quickly, which we were impressed with considering the size of the order. Thanks for a great experience, we’ll definitely be back!
