The food at Ponchos Mexican Cantina on Buford Hwy was absolutely delicious—everything we ordered was flavorful and well prepared. Our server, Jesus, didn’t initially introduce himself, which is the main reason for the 4 stars, but he definitely turned it around. His humor and customer service really shined, and it was clear he was juggling a lot, possibly being the only server, food runner, and busser at the time.
The bartender was friendly and helpful, but unfortunately the drinks didn’t quite hit the mark. As a bartender myself, I take the craft very seriously and expect more out of a cocktail, which made that part a bit disappointing. Overall, great food and solid service under pressure. I’d definitely come back and hope to see a few small improvements next time.

The food is good and location is right in the city with ton of parking. The price and portion size is awesome for being so close to the city. The service is always awesome, everyone is so friendly and accommodating. Feels very at home.

You walk in the music is blasting like if it’s a club the music do not match the restaurant. Service was very great until my food came out. The food is lacking seasoning and flavor, but overall edible. The cook messed up on my order. I order Chalupa with no protein, and it came with chicken, The server did ask me If I wanted a new one or take it to go, I refuse, but I’m not that kind of person. Over I’ll give everything at three.

In town on business, chose Pancho’s because it wasn’t a chain with the same old food. Had the carnitas and they were perfect! Crispy outside and soft and tender inside. I found the margaritas to be just right as well. If we’re ever back in Atlanta, we’ll be dining here again.

Placing an order from Poncho’s and expecting to get anything even remotely approximating the order you placed is akin to playing the lottery for a billion dollars and actually winning. (It’s a shame, too, because the food used to be quite good, before they started going too heavy with the salt, but it’s not even remotely worth the headache these days.) Seriously, it has happened every damn time we’ve ordered from this place — so now we won’t order from them anymore because they refuse to make it right, even though the records for the orders placed incontrovertibly demonstrate they didn’t fill the VERY SIMPLE orders correctly.
The sad part is that this used to be a pretty good restaurant. Back in the day, in the rare event they made a mistake, there were family members working there who would make it right immediately. Now, at best, you’ll get some incompetent employee telling you on a Friday, after they’ve butchered your order, that you can take it up with the manager — who will be in on Monday. (That’s what they just told my wife and I.) At this point, after more than 13 years as a customer it’s time to cut bait like a number of my other friends and associates in the area have done after similar problems. Fortunately, the area has many other Mexican restaurants that serve great food and actually value their customers.

The place is big however parking is limited. The service is quick. Food lacks flavors it’s pretty blend and didn’t taste that great. The margaritas are really good. The food quantity and quality doesn’t match the prices you pay.

Chips and salsa are great. Chicken soup is great most of the time, however, on the most recent visit, they had added Frozen mixed vegetables to the chicken soup. It had green beans and peas, carrots and corn in it. But, no lime and only a very thin sliver of avocado. it’s sad because it used to be such great soup for the last 40 years.
The enchilada was inedible. it had some kind of lumpy brown gravy on it instead of enchilada sauce + it tasted like someone had put sugar in it. finally, the spinach dip was really watery, sauteed stemy spinach. So incredibly disappointing. Stick to chips and salsa and fajitas and maybe take a chance on the chicken soup occasionally. everything else it’s really gone downhill.
