For those who love their afternoon teas fresh, colorful, fragrant and steeped in history, Palm Court at The Drake Hotel, serving tea for nearly a century in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, is the quintessential Magnificent Mile afternoon tea experience. Even the Queen and Princess Diana have made their royal visits here. During the evenings, opulence comes by the bottle or glass with a superb selection of wine and bubbly, beer and perfected cocktails paired with a comprehensive shared menu concept offering iconic Chicago portion selections and the Executive Pour Martini, what we like to call a martini, with a side of martini. Select evenings also include live music of rotating artists.

Went to afternoon tea here. The scones were over baked and very dry. The desserts left much to be desired. The sandwiches were barely edible for the price you pay. It was absolutely borderline disgusting food. The service was top-notch; could not have been better or more welcoming. If only the food could catch up to the service, this would be quite the experience!
Just walking into this historical wonder is exciting. What follows should equal the visuals.

My husband I went to celebrate at an afternoon tea at the Palm Court inside the Drake Hotel. It was amazing! We had some delicious tea with so many options, and amazing little tea bites and cakes and crumpets. My husband is gluten free and he had some amazing options! They were sure to offer him a ton of things to eat and he said they were delicious. And he has not gotten sick from it, which I know is important for so many celiacs. You could have as much treats and tea as you liked during the 90minutes. We definitely ate out fill! It was a birthday celebration for us so they brought us out 2 little chocolate cakes with whipped cream and candles for us too! And husband’s was also gluten free! It was too sweet of them! I will say that a couple of the treats were a little dry or cold, but what can you expect. Many of these things need to be made a year of time for the number of customers and events. They can’t make everything right away all the time all day long. lol most of the tests were perfectly delicious. We also had a harpist! It was such a beautiful atmosphere! It was $86/pp. I really really enjoyed this experience. It was such a luxurious experience.
Parking: the website mentions parking at 900 North Michigan for getting validated however, it wasn’t really available when we asked at the Palm Court for the tea. Our wonderful waiter told us they would validate if we did the valet for parking. So keep that in mind when attending.

My 2 girl friends invited me for my birthday celebration.
This afternoon tea party was amazing. We disconnected from the real world for 2 hours. The service was perfect thanks to Javier, the location is gorgeous (please go to the powder room which needs to be seen). The food was good but as a French person I think a few items could be more elaborate (what about some foie gras toast instead of the mini beef burger?). Some sweets were too much but no worries you can bring a box home. The variety of teas is incredible! A very nice moment

Palm Court Afternoon Tea was a WONDERFUL experience. I really LOVE tea and it was so nice to have so many varieties. One of my daughters was there and before this experience, she said she didn’t like like tea at all. I think she enjoyed it more than I did! They also had a tower of small bites that were tasty as well. There were several kinds of desserts, small sandwiches, egg salad and scones. We thought we weren’t going to be full but we definately were. I wish I could remember our server. He was 100/10! No, thats not a typo. He was AMAZING…attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and humorous. All the things that contribute to a memorable experience. When I remember his name, I will edit this review. I do remember he was bald, like my husband Additionally, you can also purchase alcoholic drinks from the bar. The room itself was GORGEOUS. The flowers were breathtaking. There was a harpist playing when we were there that truly set the mood. Palm Court Afternoon Tea is definately a vibe!

Absolutely stunning. My wife has always wanted to go to a classy High Tea, since she was a little girl. Her grandmother that came from England would have tea parties when she was young. Everything was great. Food and waiter was outstanding. If I had to say anything constructive, it would be it was a little loud with so many people. Not unbearable though. And the other is, I would have thought Palm Court would had made a special gesture acknowledging our 25th anniversary. But did not change our experience. Thank you for an unforgettable afternoon.

My favorite place in the city for afternoon tea. Love to add a glass of champagne. The floral centerpiece above the fountain is a replica of the original one for Princess Diana. Love the harpist, it’s such a nice touch. Definitely recommend if u like afternoon tea. The cucumber sandwich and scone is my favorite, and they replace the food if you want more of anything without charging anything more.

Had a lovely time during tea service! The Harp was beautiful, our server was excellent, and the food was delicious. I bought some almond and vanilla tea to take home too! Very relaxing and laid back.

Beautiful venue. Staff was wonderful not only in the restaurant but the Doorman was a dear! The harp player was heavenly! The food was good except for the salmon which was quite fishy and they immediately replaced those with a different sandwich. We saw egg salad go by but we were told it wasn’t an option.? Nice for a special occasion.

Beautiful tea time with live harp. Amazing selection for teas, scones, sandwiches and small bites. I enjoyed my time here. You can also ask for more for the pieces that you liked. The staff was very attentive too!

having experienced high class, authentic afternoon tea, my first time at the drake was disappointing and a waste of money. the interior wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, the furniture and decor more of a hodge podge of garage antiques than a classy ball room for tea. the hostess gave our seating to someone else with the same first name. the service was lacking. too many tables for one server, but still neglecting our table contributed to the disappointment. the table next to us was seated after us but received water, tea, and food before us. i ordered a vegan option but didn’t receive it. the waiter disappeared for 30 minutes, asked the table next to us to refill their tray but never asked about ours. additionally the restroom accessibility has got to be in violation of ADA requirements, a disabled woman next to us had to use the men’s bathroom because she couldn’t make it down the stairs to the women’s bathroom. despicable to think they would cause such difficulties for such a significant demographic within their customer base: elderly women. the drake is not offering a unique, classy, or traditional experience, they’re providing a tourist attraction and attempting to make as much money as possible off as many people as possible with disregard to their customers. i would never go back, it’s a waste of money at almost $90 a person. what they are banking on is that people have no standards for what the experience should be like because there will always be new people coming to afternoon tea at the drake. while most negative comments seem to be coming from regular who will no longer be coming back.
