A great Mom and Pop Cafe nestled in the heart of downtown Mt. Vernon. Jim got the Hand rolled tenderloin and I ordered the build a burger with bacon and cheese. The tomato was fresh and cut to a good size. The burger hit my nose when I took my first bite. Both of us had a side order of fries. We did the curbside pick up. Portions are good size. Fries appeared to be hand cut. Cozy setting inside. I would recommend checking this place out. If you take out, make sure you ask for napkins though. You will need them if you ordered sandwiches.

1st time there, unfortunately we weren’t very hungry, so we shared. Ordered a reuben sandwich & onion rings. Both were amazing. Pretty sure they make their own sauces for the sandwich & onion rings. Got a piece of cake to bring home for dessert, but haven’t had it yet. Looking forward to going back, but next time we’ll bring back up. Oh, our server was also spot on!

Best veggie burger in Iowa. Seriously. It’s house made and cooked to be just slightly crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I had it in the “burger of the month” style, topped with fig and pear chutney and goat cheese, and I just about died of happiness. We also got a special, spinach and artichoke chutney, which was topped with walnut gorgonzola cream. Amazing. I’m seriously considering coming back tomorrow to have the same burger again for lunch!

Get the ribs and eggs for brunch… sorry I almost couldn’t stop to take a pic! Tangy bbq sauce moderate smoke and the most tender and moist! The tasty homefrie were gobbled up before the ketchup bottle was even thought of… I will be back!

I loved the small-town cafe feel. Palisades was clean and tidy. The staff was great. One waiter was covering a full house for Saturday lunch, and he did it quickly, efficiently and in a friendly manner. My salad was fresh, crisp and tasty and my husband’s burger was sumptuous. The fries weren’t the crispest but were hot and had really good flavor! We ate every one!
Dessert was pomegranate bread pudding that had just the right amount of spice and melted in our mouths.

Burgers and fries are always great the fries green beans are awesome also! But the waitress was not very friendly. I do understand it’s hard to find personable friendly staff these days! She then literally would not take my card from my hand, she insisted I put the card on the tray! I thought that was weird because she had to swipe my card anyway!?

Phenomenal food and service. Had the palisades burger and fries which were both excellent. Their house made ranch dressing was the best I’ve ever had. We ended the meal with a slice of coconut cream cake at the end of the meal which was superb as well. Can’t recommend this place enough. Amazing flavors with nice portion size at an affordable price.
