Reviews
Unlike most of the Chinese/ dim sum restaurants, Palette is spacious making it more elegant. We loved it a lot.
Food .. we liked their classic shrimp dumplings (ha gow) and also the blossom ha gow (they were a bit sticky though). XLB was OK…we preferred their regular version instead of the palette XLB (though we liked the pearled vinegar).
Wagyu beef chow fun was a bit too salty for us, and most of the chow fun were sticking together. However, the beef was delicious.
All three desserts were great! We loved them all.
Overall, we loved the atmosphere, service and how their presentation. We will definitely be there again to try other dishes 🙂
Standouts for me were the xiao long bao, wagyu fried rice, and the slow-cooked beef short rib. Everything we tried was solid, and I honestly wish I had room to order more.
We tried a good amount of the cocktails too, and you can tell they put real effort into that menu. The Peachee Martini and Sticky Situation were my favorites. Balanced and creative without being gimmicky.
Highly recommend. Will definitely be back!
They just opened so there’s lots of room for improvements. Hopefully service and quality of food improve soon
Until then it will be my last visit.
The cocktails were outstanding. Some of the best I’ve had. The Golden Oak whiskey drink was my favorite. Service was excellent and everything came out quickly.
Highly recommend: the Xiao Long Bao, BBQ pork buns, scallop noodles, and the wagyu fried rice.
The space itself was uncomfortably cold, and every dish that came out turned cold within five minutes. The restaurant was also loud and very open, making it difficult to have a conversation.
The biggest issue was the service. The servers and bussers did not seem trained at all, and the manager only did table touches without seeming to know what needed to be addressed. We ordered the course menu, yet dessert was brought out shortly after the entrée arrived. No additional utensils were provided, so we ended up eating dessert with chopsticks. When we asked for vinegar, they repeatedly brought soy sauce instead.
The chairs also had visible sauce stains, which made the place feel poorly maintained. The most shocking moment was when a busser cleared another table’s dishware and placed those dirty plates on our table while stacking them. It was honestly disgusting, and I’ve never experienced anything like that before.
I do plan to return in a few months to give it another try, but this was definitely not the Palette experience I was hoping for.
Overall I would definitely visit again and highly enjoyed my experience. Will be visiting back soon!
Here’s what we tried:
– Palette soup dumpling ($12): 4/5 stars. The presentation and color of the dumplings were fun. It would be nice if there was a description of what was inside each dumpling. I tried one of the red colored ones and one of the black colored ones. The meat inside didn’t have a strong flavor, but the texture of the meat was soft. There was some juicy inside, but I would have liked even more juice.
– Lobster ha gow ($12): 4/5 stars. Such a unique ha gow with a cute pipette to inject even more flavor inside. The lobster inside was tasty. The skin was a little soggy and not the usual chewy texture of ha gow
– Pork and shrimp siu mai ($6): 3/5 stars. Solid siu mai, but nothing special. The meat was a little on the dry side
– Truffle scallop garlic noodles ($42): 3/5 stars. This dish was too salty for me and my fiancée. The scallops were solid, but weren’t as soft and tender as other scallops I’ve had. I enjoyed the texture of the garlic noodles, but my fiancée didn’t
– Sweet sesame sea bass cubes ($36): 1/5 stars. Neither my fiancée nor myself enjoyed this dish at all. The fried, sweet batter ruined the whole dish. The sauce tasted like maple syrup, and the batter was too thick. There was a good amount of fish inside each cube, but the sauce masked the taste of the fish
– Shanghai Bok Choy ($18): 5/5 stars. Probs the best dish, but it’s pricey for just Bok Choy. It had a reasonable amount of salt, and the Bok Choy was fresh and was tender, yet had a good crunch to it.
Ambiance is great here – upscale and modern. Service wasn’t great during the soft opening. We weren’t given any sauces for our dim sum items. They also forgot to add the Bok Choy to our order, so we waited around 40 minutes for it.
