Great visit to PCG! We were seated at a nice large booth though it was near the door to the outdoor seating area which created a draft every time the door was opened. Everything else however from the service to the food was excellent. We enjoyed shrimp dumplings as an appetizer along with our three entree’s. The Coconut Crab Crusted Mahi Mahi, Sesame-Crusted Seared Ahi and the star of the evening, the Pacific Paella which was incredible! We split our White Chocolate Bread Pudding three ways and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

We went here for a pre-Vday celebration and had such an enjoyable time! The restaurant was fully booked so we found a table in the bar area with a fabulous view of the ocean. Our waitress, Ashley, was so amazing! She was kind, genuine, humorous, attentive & gave good recommendations on food & drinks. Roberto was attentive in keeping dishes cleared & truly a genuinely good guy also. Any staff that we interacted with were kind & courteous.
The food was DELICIOUS!! We had the Cardiff Reef Roll & the Sea Dragon Roll. Sea Dragon was the bomb!!
We would definitely recommend this restaurant & hopefully you to will have the pleasure of having Ashley as your server. I’m sure we’ll return here again!

Great place to go for a nice meal and view. I really loved the views and location. I went during lunch and enjoyed everything we ordered. I walked out after to get a close up view of the ocean. I watched the surfers through the window during my meal which was fun. Service was good and we were checked on frequently.

You can’t beat the amazing atmosphere and service. Our food was really great too.
Had cocktails which were good. The ahi tuna tower was really good, scallops were excellent, paella was almost perfect, but the lobster was over cooked and tough.
The service was excellent. Adam was our server and he had great recommendations and wonderful vibe. They adjusted and made accommodations for our children. The scallops were great! The bread pudding was good. But the best part was the ocean view from the patio. The sunset was gorgeous! The perfect place to have an oceanside lunch or dinner.

The restaurant is right by the ocean which provides an amazing view especially during the sunset. In my prior experiences, being near ocean justified not having the best food quality, however here the food is the main focus and I was blown by its taste and quality , service was also great! I had the sesame seared Ahi and my wife had the short rib, both dishes were delicious and tastefully designed

This place is just wonderful, Amazing view with great service. We had fried calamari & paella but I don’t recommend the paella it was super salty & full of sauce. Fried calamari was super delicious . The waiters are so kind & helpful. The service is great & fast. They also treated us with complimentary cheesecake for my wife birthday.

No doubt the restaurant has a beautiful view, however due to my experiences I will not come again. The food is overall pretty good but the prices and portion sizes is not worth it. I keep in mind that this is by the ocean so it will be higher, but even with that it’s not worth it.

My real problem is the customer service. As I entered the hostess informed me my party was on the deck and just head upstairs. I head up and a male hostess/server just looks at me (profiles me) and tells me my party is to the right room. I inform him that the hostess told me my family is on the deck and gave the reservation names. However he ignores me and still guides me to a room in which I knew no one but just were people of color.

Eventually I just go to the deck as stood and found my family. Both of the servers which we had were in the motions, and one took my sister and aunt’s items before they were done with them without offering a box. In which half the meal was trashed.

So overall it’s a great location but not great service. I did tell the manager so hopefully he does address the profiling issue from earlier. I will say the manager was the kindest over all the people that served us.

The good:
Beautiful sunset setting and the Chilean sea bass was excellent — perfectly cooked and plated. Hard to beat the view.

The bad:
Even with reservations made weeks in advance, the prime oceanfront tables seemed reserved for locals. We were told, “There are several private reservations, but we’ll do what we can.” It’s a disappointing experience when you’ve planned ahead for a special evening. The seared ahi tuna was also underwhelming — nice presentation but little flavor.

Bottom line:
The view delivers, but the service and seating priorities don’t match the hype. Next time I’d drive 10 minutes south to Del Mar and dine at Jake’s or Poseidon, where the food and experience both feel worth it.

I grew up in San Diego so I have been coming to Pacific Coast Grill since I was in high school. They recently did a major remodel so this visit was the first being after the new construction. I think they did a wonderful job with it and really expanded to it. The brick wall in the front looks really great and they added a lot more seating. I did not get a chance to take a look at what they added upstairs, but the restaurant itself looks a lot better than it used to and the menu is still refreshingly huge and has lots of great options. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot so the best option is to do valet. Parking on this stretch of the 101 can be a bit tricky. We sat outside in the back with our table closest to the water as possible. We heard the ocean waves crashing during our entire meal and it was just a really tranquil and wonderful setting enjoying the beautiful San Diego evening. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast.

For this visit, I started off with a Dungeness Crab Guacamole, and loved it. They really gave a lot of crab and I felt the portion size was very generous. I would highly recommend. Next, I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Chowder and I thought this one was just OK. I think it would’ve been a lot better if it would have been a bisque or had more of a sherry flavor or just something different. I thought it was a little bland so I would not recommend this one. For my entrée, I chose the Alaskan Halibut because of shrimp scampi and Parmesan risotto that came with it, and all three were a great combination. This was a great end of the meal and I would definitely order it again next time I visit even though they’re probably most famous for their Seafood Paella.

Overall a fantastic San Diego dinner or lunch option, someplace I have been going to for over a decade and will continue to go to.

I’m giving 2 stars mostly because of the host. When we arrived, she didn’t greet us at all, which felt pretty unwelcoming. The restaurant was empty, and even though our reservation was at 4:00 and we showed up at 3:45, she told us we had to wait, kind of strange considering no one was there.

The view is honestly gorgeous, definitely the best part of the whole place. Service was good thanks to Meshael he is really good and professional. Food was fine, but nothing I’d go back for.

Overall, the experience wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either.
