The food was DELICIOUS!! We had the Cardiff Reef Roll & the Sea Dragon Roll. Sea Dragon was the bomb!!
We would definitely recommend this restaurant & hopefully you to will have the pleasure of having Ashley as your server. I’m sure we’ll return here again!
Had cocktails which were good. The ahi tuna tower was really good, scallops were excellent, paella was almost perfect, but the lobster was over cooked and tough.
The service was excellent. Adam was our server and he had great recommendations and wonderful vibe. They adjusted and made accommodations for our children. The scallops were great! The bread pudding was good. But the best part was the ocean view from the patio. The sunset was gorgeous! The perfect place to have an oceanside lunch or dinner.
My real problem is the customer service. As I entered the hostess informed me my party was on the deck and just head upstairs. I head up and a male hostess/server just looks at me (profiles me) and tells me my party is to the right room. I inform him that the hostess told me my family is on the deck and gave the reservation names. However he ignores me and still guides me to a room in which I knew no one but just were people of color.
Eventually I just go to the deck as stood and found my family. Both of the servers which we had were in the motions, and one took my sister and aunt’s items before they were done with them without offering a box. In which half the meal was trashed.
So overall it’s a great location but not great service. I did tell the manager so hopefully he does address the profiling issue from earlier. I will say the manager was the kindest over all the people that served us.
Beautiful sunset setting and the Chilean sea bass was excellent — perfectly cooked and plated. Hard to beat the view.
The bad:
Even with reservations made weeks in advance, the prime oceanfront tables seemed reserved for locals. We were told, “There are several private reservations, but we’ll do what we can.” It’s a disappointing experience when you’ve planned ahead for a special evening. The seared ahi tuna was also underwhelming — nice presentation but little flavor.
Bottom line:
The view delivers, but the service and seating priorities don’t match the hype. Next time I’d drive 10 minutes south to Del Mar and dine at Jake’s or Poseidon, where the food and experience both feel worth it.
For this visit, I started off with a Dungeness Crab Guacamole, and loved it. They really gave a lot of crab and I felt the portion size was very generous. I would highly recommend. Next, I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Chowder and I thought this one was just OK. I think it would’ve been a lot better if it would have been a bisque or had more of a sherry flavor or just something different. I thought it was a little bland so I would not recommend this one. For my entrée, I chose the Alaskan Halibut because of shrimp scampi and Parmesan risotto that came with it, and all three were a great combination. This was a great end of the meal and I would definitely order it again next time I visit even though they’re probably most famous for their Seafood Paella.
Overall a fantastic San Diego dinner or lunch option, someplace I have been going to for over a decade and will continue to go to.
The view is honestly gorgeous, definitely the best part of the whole place. Service was good thanks to Meshael he is really good and professional. Food was fine, but nothing I’d go back for.
Overall, the experience wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either.
