4 miles outside of Zion Crossroad is the little community of Troy. There’s not much there, so even with GPS it’s easy to drive past Pa Pa Jim’s as it’s tucked down off the bend of the road. It’s a simple, local ice cream stand with some outdoor seating. In addition to soft serve, hard served flavors and specialty ice creams, shakes, sundaes and Italian Ice are offered. It’s a popular place; open seasonally and from noon to 8 pm daily. We purchased a kiddie cup of twist soft serve w M&Ms & Oreos and a kiddie cup of Sea Turtle made of salted caramel and chocolate shaped turtle infused with caramel. Really good tasting. The $1.50 additional charge per extra topping is steep, especially when added to a small cup. Our $3.52 suddenly became $6.52. Oh well…

It’s okay. Taste like average soft serve ice cream.

Wow big portions. The Sunday was huge and the small cones I ordered for my girls were bigger than they could eat. The server was friendly and the ice cream was really good. The atmosphere could use some help. One of the benches has a broken seat, the grass is massively overgrown, and the outside could use some good cleaning. Ignoring the outside appeal, the ice cream is awesome.

Unique place in Troy that offers a covered spot to sit and eat the ice cream. Parking can be tight.
Recently changed owners and the value isn’t the same it seems. The menu seems to be set, and if you want to add something or take something away, it seems to always be an issue. I usually get the strawberry shortcake however I don’t like whip cream. When I ask to leave this off, they have to find the button for it on the register.
Just an observation, but I think that charging $1.50 to add a teaspoon of M&M’s to ice cream is a little steep considering the new prices for just a small bowl of vanilla ice cream.
They offer the flavor burst for ice cream. I am not a huge fan of this but some may like it. It is basically a system that infuses a flavored syrup onto the soft serve.
Update: I went back and ordered a milkshake. The price of the shake on the board is for vanilla only, they charge extra for strawberry or chocolate. It was runny, and almost like strawberry milk.
All in all a neat little place on the side of the road in Troy.

This place was VERY good. A small, local ice cream joint with outdoor seating. There was some covered outdoor seating as well.
The portions were very large. I originally ordered a regular, but then saw the size and opted for a small. I’m glad I did! I left full lol.
We ordered the cotton candy and the sugar free country apple. The flavor for each of them was fantastic. It wasn’t too sweet and was creamy. Coming here was completely worth the trip out. We will be back!! I VERY HIGHLY recommend coming to grab an ice cream if you’re in the area.

I bought two of these and paid $6 a piece. After tax almost $13…very disappointing. I asked the young lady working was she sure this was right? She just shrugged her shoulders and nodded yes. I’ve been coming here for years and have always felt satisfied but not this day. To the new owners: quality control, you can do better

Papa Jim’s I go to is the one by the post office not the one by the lake. I’ve been going there for years. The ice cream is very good and it’s reasonably priced you got picnic tables to sit outside. It’s not the most sanitary way to sit any ice cream, but there are a few toys for kids to play ona cute little place.

We always stop here when dropping one of our kids off at camp up the street. Always unique flavors and reasonable prices. The employee we interacted with was friendly. Parking can be a little tight, but it’s a small place. Will continue to return when we are in the area!
