Reviews
I was drawn in by the “Hot Slices” sign but a little wary since it was completely empty at dinnertime. All the pizzas looked underwhelming but I was hungry, so I decided to get a Potato Pesto Garlic slice. It cost $8.24 before tip.
The worker warmed up the slice and gave it to me on a paper plate. It looked decent but I could already tell the crust didn’t have great gluten development. The edge was smooth and the crust was thin. It was so weak that I needed both hands with all my fingers under to support the slice. Even then, bits sagged and cracked and spilled garlicky oil over my hands.
The potato and garlic combination could’ve been nice if there was also some minced garlic placed on after cooking. However, it only had roasted garlic, which has a very slight sweet flavor. The slices of potatoes were just fine.
There was plenty of seating and most tables had napkins, sriracha, and parmesan. No restroom was available but I was directed to the ice cream shop next door.
This isn’t a place worth seeking out, but it’s good enough if you’re hungry and walking past.
ATMOSPHERE:
It’s a typical little pizza shop with indoor and a few outdoor seats. The pans of pizza were pre-made then zapped to order.
MENU:
Salads, chicken wings, pizza, dessert, beer.
FOOD:
Mushroom Pizza
My choice, and it was the last slice left! The Costco-sized slice was a thin, chewy crust, with fresh mushrooms, cheese, and had great flavor.
Pepperoni Pizza
My spouse’s grub. Pepperoni is a pepperoni is a pepperoni… Tasty, salty, not too oily. Because we had 3 huge slices, they put them in an entire pizza box, a bit of waste for a city that’s into recycling.
SERVICE:
Fast and friendly from what I can remember lol. We were in and out in less than 5 minutes.
TIP:
Yelp check in offer of “one free soda” was honored! Thanks guys!
OVERALL:
Good pie, open late!
I recommend the Mango Macaroon dessert thing. Trust me on this.
My 2nd visit: I highly recommend the pizza burger, vanilla macaroon, and mango beer on tap. The chips that come with the pizza burger are fire! I even came back to post the pics!
The price is crazy, though. Almost $9 for one slice with scant toppings!
Would be ok for late night, but there’s probably better/cheaper around during the day.
Right after my workout I headed right over. The shop is located right in the middle of the Castro area which for those who don’t know is the LGBTQ area of town and it’s quiet obvious when entering the areas.
The shop was pretty low key and no crowd at all. They no longer carry the Kangaroo pizza but they do have Ostrich pizza which fit the mold for unique so I went with that and the camel. I personally favored the Ostrich pizza, but both were great. The pizza itself was good and the meats just added to it. For the two pizzas it rang me up $16 but honestly were pretty filling. Check in on Yelp and get a free soda.
Overall pretty happy here, service wasn’t the friendliest, but looking past that point as the offering is something you won’t get anywhere else.
