First time in. Im a recent Texas transplant from California and my wife, being from Brownsville used to come to Oyster Bar in her teen years.
Food is great! Don’t come looking for burgers or chicken strips…simple but excellent seafood. My favorite was the shrimp .

Definitely will be back.

Love going to eat at The Oyster Bar/ Downtown. Environment and service makes you feel right at home & all of their employees treat all of the customers with a smile.. their fried shrimp and the way they treat you is the main reasons why I will always go there!!

Update 5/16/24: Had a delicious lunch with my mother. I tried the clam chowder for the first time, it was boiling hot and served with crackers, I enjoyed it. Ordered a full plate of shrimp (12) with french fries, amazing as always!_________________________________________
Excellent seafood restaurant, our meals always come out hot and are quickly served. They have great lunch specials, half and order of shrimp or fish with fries or baked potatoe, and a tea.

Food was way overpriced and just not good. The fried oysters had a thick breading with tiny a tiny oyster. The buns were packaged. There was only one choice of dressing for the lettuce and one slice of tomato. So disappointing, not good, left hungry and an empty pocket. I hate when a restaurant doesn’t serve real butter, that’s a sign of lack of quality.

In spite of the difficulty in finding parking due to construction projects in the area, it’s worth checking out this historic seafood eatery that is still family-owned after 73 years and 4 generations. Clean, neat, and tidy, with great food served by pleasant & attentive staff. Note: This is THE original Oyster Bar in the Brownsville area, and I remember being brought here by my mother in the 1960’s, and it offered great seafood and was well-managed back then, too!

The dinning experience is great the locals and people engaged in conversation and the seafood soup was delicious. The server was attentive and professional in all aspects of his position. Highly recommended.
