Authentic chinese food in Lowell, NH – Facebook
Reviews
Been in Lowell quite a bit lately and stopped by twice to try their lunch specials. Both times, I was the only person dining in, though there were a few takeout orders going out. The owner was super friendly and while the restaurant seemed like a single man operation, everything came out quick.
The food. The portions for most dishes were easily double what I’d expected from a typical appetizer/ lunch specials. Unfortunately, the overall quality was subpar. Some small plates, like the spare ribs, were clearly reheated in the microwave, and the excess moisture from the thawing process was clearly visible on the bottom of the plate. General Tso’s chicken had thick and soggy breading and very little meat, which made it a carb-heavy bite. Since it had been fried and frozen beforehand, it tasted almost identical to one of those frozen Chinese chicken plates from grocery stores. Thankfully, the pork belly dishes held better even after freezing. Both the garlic chili pork belly and the double cooked pork belly were genuinely enjoyable.
Overall, better than food-court Chinese, but not quite on par with average Boston Chinese restaurants. Lowell’s Chinese food scene is pretty underwhelming, so it might be worth a stop if you’re looking for an inexpensive yet filling meal.
My husband got the chili squid and he asked for it extra spicy. They accommodated but made sure to keep the balance of the flavors. It was so well cooked and the squid was buttery tender. My husband was super happy with it.
My friend got the shredded chicken dish and it was love at first bite. The chicken was crispy outside but super tender and moist on the inside. Had a nice spicy kick.
One thing that should be noted is that rice isn’t included in the entrees. They charge $2.50. Normally this would upset me because rice is such an essential part of the meal, but the food was so good, I don’t even care lol. 10/10 would recommend.
The restaurant is short in staff, which makes me waited even longer, definitely not recommended if you don’t like the smell of the smoke.
We ordered 3 dishes:
1) Sugar in the lotus root was not being mixed evenly.
2) Yuxiang shredded pork taste pretty good. Favored pretty authentic. Comes with a large portion of rice.
3) Fried pork liver. Has a fishy flavor, not being well seasoned to remove the fishy flavor. But is pretty soft and tender.
Haven’t had too many other dishes but if you’re visiting for the first time you HAVE to get the beef noodle soup. Spicy dry fish filet (香辣鱼片?no idea, can’t find a menu written in Chinese) is also pretty good.
These guys just opened up recently but my guess is once word gets out it’ll be a lot more packed for sure
