Slice pizza was decent and 5$ slice is fair. Again, nothing special but well crafted. Would buy again.
The huge miss was my wife’s bagel. Garlic bagel with hummus and cucumbers. I know, weird choice, but whatever makes her happy. The bagel was over toasted just enough to burn 40% of the garlic which caused the whole bagel to taste burnt, that combined with the way over lemon’d hummus, made the bagel taste like burnt lemons. Pretty much the worst bagel I’ve ever tried. So bad I had to leave this review.
My feedback to the bakers, check on the garlic bagels more diligently, the garlic burns easy, and please redo your hummus recipe.
The most important factors to me in a coffee shop are 1. the bathrooms, and 2. the ambiance, both of which are fantastic. The bathrooms are single occupant, clean, have cleaning implements so customers can help keep them clean, and have huge mirrors which are pretty.
The seating is open and abundant. There’s a bar over by the barista station, bar seating looking out the window, and bar seating on the side over by the water, and 12 tables occupying the main area. There’s a water station that is being actively refilled by the staff. This place also holds jazz shows every Friday. Very cool.
One aspect to this coffee shop/bakery (it’s a bakery) is that the bakery and barista stations are separated, which was a little confusing to me. I spent a little time zoning out at both signs before figuring out how it works. The advantage is obvious, though. If you just want coffee, you don’t have to wait behind people who want baked goods and vice versa. Other similar establishments (like Macrina) could learn a thing or two from this set up.
Unfortunately, because I only had the tea, I was privy to a couple of downsides which may only affect my experience. I got some decaf tea (and it was great to me, but I’m not really a tea drinker) but it was served in two implements which don’t really work at all.
First off, I got this French press of tea made by Miir. This French press spills everywhere whenever I pour it. I basically took up two seats at the bar with the mess I’d created from spilling tea. Second, this adorable little teacup. This teacup is so thin that it gets too hot to hold except by the handle, but the handle is too dainty and unwieldy to actually help.
Is that enough to bring it down a whole star. Probably not, but I might not have ordered the tea in the first place if the lattes weren’t nearly $7. I might change my mind next time I come, and it will be soon. So, I guess we’ll see.
Almost forgot to mention the pizza on Friday/Saturday nights is delicious also. The crust might be the best in seattle. Wish they put a little more toppings on them, but still a solid 8/10!
