Awesome, homey and retro! They make an amazing Old Fashioned with brandy and the walleye was to die for! Worth the drive for me! Such nice people, too! Hand breaded mushrooms? Hell yes! Will be back for the bluegill and ribeye.

First off, our waitress was awesome! We looked up the menu & prices before we got there, so we were ready for a good Friday Night Fish Fry!
* To be honest, we were VERY disappointed. The prices were nowhere near what was documented online!!
5 piece shrimp dinner $24.
3 piece fried cod was $24.
It was good, but nothing special about this meal and WAY overpriced for the amount of food we were served!! I usually take half of my meal home for lunch the next day. There wasn’t enought to do even that We even got charged a couple of dollars more for a “service fee” ♀️
➡️ I don’t think we’ll be coming back here

Excellent food, staff needs to be trained, bartenders and wait staff, they all where trying but had no real game plan on serving the customers, just sorta all over the place, we had 4 different people wait on us. Went there after 7:30 pm no crowd walked right in, good salad bar, but our food came out just as we got the salad.

Went out for Friday fish!
We went a little later after 8PM. They were out of a good number of fish, but the hostess told us that prior to seating to ensure we wanted to stay. I thought that was very thoughtful!
Fresh buns were served at the table and they were so soft!
Salad bar was basic, but good!
I got cod and the batter was so good! And we all had their homemade fresh french fries which were supper! I personally like a little floppier of a fry so I was happy.
I had an old fashioned sour and honestly one of the best I’ve had!
Our server was continually apologetic about things that were out of their control and made sure we had everything we needed.
Overall I’d give our experience an 85%. For sure room for improvement, but they’re new! I can’t expect 5 star service from a place just restarting… I can’t wait to see them grow!

The Fish had probably an inch of batter on it. The beans were cold, the flavor wasn’t very great. For the price it is not worth it. 23$ for 2 pieces of cod that are mostly batter is rediculous. The place definitely looks nicer since the remodel it was a clean place.

We waited over an hour which no big deal. But then when we were called to get seated there were 6 empty tables. The hostess said everyone left at the same time and that’s why they were all empty. We sat down for over 15 min and had to tell the hostess no one had waited on us yet. The table next to us ordered after us and had more people and got their food before us. Finally our food came out and it was barely warm. Cheesy potatoes were cold and had no flavor. The cod fish was ok the tartar sauce was not good. And finally it is way too expensive for what you get. We never had been to the Old Owls Nest but if this was remodeled I can’t imagine what it looked like. Oh and the silverware looks so unappealing. I can’t even describe it. They will not be open long if things don’t improve.
While we were sitting there waiting for a waitress I looked at reviews and they were very mixed like a hit or miss type place. Unfortunately we got the MISS experience.

We were there with our neighbors on “Opening Night.” Got there about 5:30 and ordered drinks. Our brandy old fashioneds were very good! We waited a bit for a table, but it was worth it to see some old friends. There were a couple of mix ups on our order, but the food was great. I really liked the full salad bar and make sure you try the hash browns!
The Owls Nest has been a local favorite for many years. My connection goes back to childhood! The decor is clean, tidy, and warm. A few first night jitters were totally understandable!! Try it for yourself and see.

The menu online does not depict what they offer or current pricing. 2pc cod was $22, with a choice of potato, no beans, coleslaw or any of that. The deep fried cod was good, the salad bar was good, my son’s mac n cheese was hard and not edible, and my broiled cod was not good. For the price, in my opinion it was not worth it. I’d love to support a local business but until they improve their quality, especially with paper menus with the price … we won’t be back.

The new Owners (Mark) are great and are here to make your dining experience the best possible. Obviously, they’re still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant, so be a little patient and don’t judge them too harshly if everything isn’t perfect.None of us are perfect. We will definitely be back soon.

We used to go every week. We hadn’t been there for about a year. The prices have gone up a lot, and food quality has gone down. We all ordered fish, and we are supposed to get individual servings of beans and coleslaw they brought out small bowls half full for the whole table yet charge if you ask for extra. This used to be the best in Dane and Columbia County area. Fish was okay, not as good as it used to be. My bacon potato with cheese was overcooked, and I had to take off the toppings because they were so hard. No sour cream or butter had to ask for it and then was charged for it. You would think it would have been included. It used to be. The ranch mashed potato used to be their specialty, and they were very dry and not ranch flavored that well.
