Nice, clean, & friendly diner. Had the ham & cheese omelet with a side hashbrowns. The portions are pretty decent here. When I got there it was 15 minutes before opening & the cook graciously opened the door & let me in early. Enjoyed the local vibe & the bathroom was clean & inviting just like the diner itself. Good experience & worth checking out for a morning meal.

Absolutely fantastic. Very kind mother and son running the place it seems. It is clean and well kept, they work quickly. Recommended 10 out of 10!

Best sit down I found in Platteville area, not a lot of choices since COVID19, but this one survived. If it is packed, there may be a good wait, only 2 people run it, food is plentiful and hot, coffee doesn’t go empty. Had western omelet and hashbrowns, added photo.

I have tried virtually every breakfast restaurant you can think of, and most of them I have tried many times. Nobody comes close to The Owl. Food quality, prices, service, and atmosphere, are unmatched. In particular, if you are picky about hashbrown potatoes, The Owl is one of the last restaurants where you will find freshly grated hashbrowns. Even Country Kitchen has switched to freeze-dried hash browns that come in a box like a box of cereal and are then reconstituted with water in batches to prepare for the next day of cooking. Not at The Owl—real potatoes! Some places use frozen shredded potatoes, which are a little better than freeze-dried, but they have preservatives that I can taste. Again, the hash browns are perfect at the owl. Breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Pancakes are amazing. Eggs are amazing. Bacon is amazing. If you think there is a better breakfast restaurant, let me know, and I will probably be able to debunk your claim. I have no skin in the game. I am just telling you how it is. The Owl is the best.

Not the friendliness vibe. Feel like I’m intruding. Standard fare. Customer service lesson needed.

Large portions, great food, wonderful atmosphere, only downside is limited seating and the place gets packed!

I Googled breakfast near me as I was headed to Platteville to run some errands, saw this was a café… Cash only. I stopped and had the Philly cheesesteak omelette and hashbrowns with cheese and onions and let me tell you the food was amazing. Cooked with fresh ingredients, fluffy egg, real steak like you’d expect from a Philly cheesesteak sangwich, fresh peppers, and the hashbrowns with cheese and onions was just fantastic. Best I’ve had in a while. Had a wonderful conversation with the owners, definitely a great place to stop and visit!

Looking for a bite to eat near downtown, and walked past the Owl Cafe. It was fairly busy, with older-than-college-age people, so I figured it must be OK. Limited menu, but everything looked good. I had a burger and waffle fries with water to drink (cost less than a fast food meal). Food was great, with the burger cooked exactly how I would make it at home (fresh beef, nice sear, definitely not a food service patty). The owners were super friendly, even if some of the locals looked at me as if I was the first outsider to come in for a while… I enjoyed listening to fish stories and the small town chit chat that I grew up with. I will be back.
